Major Responsibilities Perform maintenance and repair activities throughout all Head Start/Early Head Start centers. Conduct routine preventative maintenance to keep ECS centers and playgrounds operating efficiently. Monitor building safety systems and standards, providing feedback and recommendations to ensure efficient and safe operation. Execute special projects such as plumbing, electrical, air‑conditioning, heating repairs, building partitions, plaster or drywall repair, roof, window, door, floor, and woodwork repairs, and painting. Inspect, diagnose problems, and determine corrective actions using blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs. Obtain supplies and repair parts from distributors or storerooms. Use hand and power tools and specialized equipment for tasks. Secure necessary permits and approvals required by law. Record maintenance and repair work performed and related costs. Perform other tasks as directed by the immediate supervisor. Organizational Relationship Reports to the Facilities Coordinator. Requirements Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Completion of appropriate trade programs preferred. 3–5 years related experience in HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, or Plumbing. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Work tactfully and diplomatically with the public. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Plan, organize work and maintain records and reports. Multi‑task, prioritize, and work in a fast‑paced environment. Strong knowledge of repair and maintenance tasks. Knowledge of safety hazards and preventive measures. Perform tasks with little direct supervision. Exercise good judgment and emotional maturity. Mechanical aptitude and shop mathematics skills. Problem‑solving ability. Certifications Valid driver’s license with proof of automobile coverage. Excellent driving record as outlined in the Vehicle Driving Policy. Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in‑service training annually (July 1 – June 30). Environmental Conditions Work inside a child care setting. Extensive travel to multiple sites required. Evening, night, or weekend shifts may be necessary. Essential Physical Skills Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction). Ability to perform physical activities requiring significant use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. Background Requirements A Level II background screen (local, state, and federal criminal checks) is required for all employees and anyone in a position of special trust who has contact with children, access to confidential information, or both.
