Produce Lead

Overview As a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family, SpartanNash is a food solutions company that delivers the ingredients for a better life. This position is responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the department operations in a retail store in the absence of the department manager or as directed, ensuring associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, operating at company standards, and meeting all company goals and key performance indicators. Responsibilities Order and maintain inventory in the department, using inventory control procedures and proper markdown procedures to minimize loss and ensure product freshness and quality. Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight, condition, and ensure all product is stored in appropriate areas. Manage a team that completes all stocking, production, and additional tasks to ensure product quality, production planning, accuracy, and date‑sensitive rotation, and to handle spoiled/damaged products per established guidelines. Maintain familiarity with all products carried in the department and throughout the store; know ad items, special prices, coupon deals, and other features that apply to the store’s sales and rewards programs. Assure that the weekly and period Flight Plan is communicated and executed to company expectations and timelines. Follow company policies and timelines using required tools and software to manage scheduling, according to forecasted guidelines. Support the department manager in implementing and maintaining work schedules, labor control, overtime control, and payroll expense for the department. Implement Company “Winning Recipe” and model core values and competencies. Support the department manager in staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates. Support the department manager in developing and monitoring department goals and forecasts. Attend and participate in daily huddles, manager meetings, and district/company level meetings via phone, online, or in person, as required. Maintain a clean, attractive, and well‑stocked department, following Prime Time standards and day‑structuring guidelines. Follow all PPE and safety guidelines, food safety and cleaning expectations, and guest experience guidelines. May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Qualifications High school graduate (required) or equivalent (GED). 0–2years of retail experience preferred. Strong written and verbal communication, and bookkeeping skills. Good organization, prioritization, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and conflict‑management skills. Strong leadership abilities capable of working in a hands‑on environment. Good strategic planning and business acumen skills. Good knowledge of retail store operations and retail management systems. Knowledge of suggestive selling and product knowledge preferred. Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable, depending on company location. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30pounds frequently, and up to 50pounds occasionally. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, bending, stooping, twisting, and turning frequently. Work is conducted in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and exposure to outdoor weather. Noise level is usually low to moderate. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
