The HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential and commercial settings. This role combines strong technical expertise with clear communication, customer service, and strict adherence to safety standards. The technician handles a mix of service calls, preventive maintenance, and system tune-ups, ensuring HVAC systems operate efficiently and reliably for a diverse range of facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality residential and commercial HVAC service and installations, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

• Install, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment such as oil furnaces, boilers, and AC units in both residential homes and commercial buildings.

• Complete 35 service calls per day, handling a variety of tasks including preventive maintenance, AC tune-ups, troubleshooting, and repairs.

• Inspect, test, and diagnose HVAC system issues efficiently using appropriate tools, instruments, and technical methods.

• Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation to ensure accurate installation and repair work.

• Use hand tools and power tools to perform mechanical, electrical, and construction-related tasks associated with HVAC systems.

• Provide clear, professional communication to customers, explaining findings, recommended repairs, maintenance needs, and system operation.

• Follow all applicable safety standards, regulations, and company procedures while working in residential and commercial environments.

• Work in various weather conditions and extreme temperatures to install and service HVAC systems in homes and commercial properties.

• Travel to job sites in Center City, Delaware County, and Montgomery County, servicing locations such as beer stores, restaurants, strip malls, day cares, apartment complexes, townhomes, and other facilities.

• Participate in on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks to respond to after-hours service needs.

• Complete required documentation for each service call, including work performed, parts used, and system status.

• Maintain a clean, organized work area and company vehicle, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and available.

• Collaborate with team members and leadership during initial training period by riding along, then independently managing a company truck once training is complete.

• Support backlog work over the coming years by delivering consistent, reliable service that meets customer expectations and company quality standards.

Essential Skills

• Minimum two (2) years of experience performing high-quality residential and commercial HVAC service and installations.

• Proficiency in inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting HVAC systems and components.

• Hands-on experience with installation, repair, and servicing of HVAC systems, including oil furnaces, boilers, and AC units.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with HVAC systems, field service tasks, and related construction activities.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

• Experience performing preventive maintenance and AC tune-ups on a variety of HVAC equipment.

• Knowledge of electrical aspects of HVAC systems and ability to perform related installation and repair work.

• Solid understanding of safety standards and regulations related to HVAC work in residential and commercial environments.

• Excellent communication skills to explain repairs, maintenance, and system operation to customers in a clear and professional manner.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues efficiently and recommend effective solutions.

• Valid drivers license with a clean motor vehicle report.

• Ownership of appropriate hand tools required to perform HVAC service work.

• Ability to work extended weekend and evening hours during high-demand periods.

• Ability to pass a background check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Comfort working in a mix of commercial (approximately 75%) and residential (approximately 25%) environments.

• Experience servicing facilities such as beer stores, restaurants, strip malls, day cares, apartment complexes, and townhomes.

• Ability to manage 35 service calls per day while maintaining high quality and customer satisfaction.

• Familiarity with using both hand tools and power tools for HVAC installation and repair.

• Capacity to work independently after an initial training period riding with a manager, including responsibility for a company truck.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks.

• Reliability and time management skills to work a structured schedule and meet service commitments.

• Customer-focused mindset with a professional, courteous approach in diverse environments.

Work Environment

The role is based in the field, primarily serving Center City, Delaware County, and Montgomery County, with approximately 75% commercial and 25% residential work. Typical commercial sites include beer stores, restaurants, strip malls, day cares, apartment complexes, and townhomes. The standard schedule runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with participation in an on-call rotation about once every six weeks to cover after-hours needs. New technicians spend the first week riding in a truck for training and the first few weeks working closely with a manager before being assigned their own truck. Work is performed in a variety of conditions, including extreme temperatures and changing weather, both indoors and outdoors, as systems are installed and repaired in residential homes and commercial buildings. The environment is hands-on and tool-intensive, involving regular use of hand tools and power tools, and requires adherence to safety standards and regulations at all times.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glenolden, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $38.00/hr.
