Bus Driver

School Bus DriverBlake's school bus drivers are a dynamic link within the Blake community tasked with the safe transport of students to and from school. This position is based on a 20-hour workweek with each day split into two 2-hour route shifts with the possibility of additional charter hours assigned periodically. The position pays $28 an hour and up to $2,500 sign-on bonus for current licensed class B drivers with school bus endorsements. Current drivers may also be eligible for a compensation program used to reward drivers who achieve specific levels of performance with additional pay.Essential Functions:Report to transportation managerReceive direction from transportation dispatcherDaily transport of school-age children to and from home, centralized pickup points and school campusesTransport school-age children to and from school campuses and field trip locationsEnsure safety and security of students, which may include directing and assisting in bus evacuationClean and fuel busesConduct pre-trip school bus inspectionAttend monthly safety training classesParticipate in ongoing pre-trip, driving and emergency procedures evaluationsTeam Participation:Blake bus drivers are expected to provide ongoing feedback to management on the efficiency of the route assigned to them. Additionally, bus drivers actively interact with other transportation team members aiding in the ongoing business collaboration of the transportation team and its responsibilities.Position Criteria:Required:Strong customer service skills—ability to interact with students and parents in a friendly and professional mannerMust be at least 21 years of age.Strong work ethic centered on maintaining schedules, mutual respect and teamworkSuccessful completion of a criminal background checkClean motor vehicle record historyAbility to be medically certified to drive a school bus by the Department of Transportation and any Blake-mandated physical testingClass B commercial driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements or the ability to obtain class B commercial license (will help train the right individual)Ability to engage, interact and communicate with students and their parentsPreferred:Prior professional driving experience (preferably school bus)General mechanical knowledge and experience with Minnesota school bus rules and regulationsPhysical Requirements:Able to sit for periods of time up to three hoursAble to lift up to 40 lbsAbility to bend and stoopAbility to pass Blake's driver ability assessmentAbility to perform duties in extreme weather conditionsAbility to evacuate school children from school bus in an emergencyFree of impairment of an arm, foot or leg that interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a school busNo established medical history or clinical diagnosis of rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular or vascular disease that interferes with the ability to operate and control a school busRequired to submit to and pass mandated illegal substance drug testing prior to beginning work and randomly through the term of employment with the schoolDisclaimer:The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
