Senior Certified Medical Assistant

The Senior Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Acts as a leader to help drive quality care and a mentor for professional practice. The location is 1111 West Fairbanks Avenue, Suite 200, Winter Park, FL 32789. The hours are Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. Family Medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
• Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
• Enters medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
• Assists the physician or APP by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
• Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
• Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants.
• Acts as preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
• Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice.
• Helps to facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Collaborates with the clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
• Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the Experience section) is required.
• Licensure/Certifications: Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification and maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or by American Allied Health (AAH). Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Experience: Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.
