1st Shift Assembly Associate

This role involves performing repetitive bench and machine-assisted assembly operations in a packaging production environment. You will assemble corrugated products, operate basic machinery and hand tools, inspect parts for quality, and package finished materials. The position requires consistent lifting, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team on a fast-paced production floor.

Responsibilities

• Perform repetitive bench and machine-assisted assembly operations according to work orders and production instructions.
• Read and interpret work orders to ensure correct assembly of corrugated products and adherence to specifications.
• Assemble corrugated products using hand tools, staplers, presses, and other basic equipment as required.
• Operate staplers, presses, and other production machinery safely and efficiently to complete assigned tasks.
• Inspect parts and assembled products for quality, accuracy, and defects, and identify any issues that need correction.
• Package finished materials according to standard procedures, including labeling, stacking, and preparing products for shipment.
• Handle and move materials and products, including consistent lifting of items weighing approximately 15–30 pounds and up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all production floor rules, including restrictions on food and drinks.
• Work collaboratively with team members and support a team-oriented production environment while also completing tasks independently.
• Follow safety procedures and guidelines when using tools, machines, and equipment, and report any concerns or malfunctions.
• Meet production goals and timelines by working efficiently and being available for overtime as needed, including early start times and occasional Saturdays.

Essential Skills

• Experience in assembly, general production, or similar manufacturing roles.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good hand-eye coordination for bench and machine-assisted assembly work.
• Ability to consistently lift 15–30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending and twisting throughout the shift.
• Capability to operate basic production machinery, including staplers and presses, following safety guidelines.
• Ability to read and follow work orders and written instructions in a production environment.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented production setting while also working independently when needed.
• Reliability and willingness to work 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with overtime as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in packaging, corrugated products, or similar production environments.
• Background in general labor, machine operation, or machine assisting roles.
• Experience with hand tools and basic production equipment.
• Familiarity with packaging, inspection, loading, and general production workflows.
• Comfort working in environments similar to packaging and container manufacturing facilities.

Work Environment

This position is based in a packaging production facility focused on corrugated products and related materials. You work on the 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with overtime as needed, typically by starting early and occasionally working on Saturdays. The environment includes bench workstations and machine-assisted assembly areas where staplers, presses, and hand tools are used regularly. You perform frequent lifting, bending, and twisting while handling materials and finished products. The production floor operates with clear safety and cleanliness standards, including a strict rule that no food or drinks are allowed on the production floor. The setting is fast-paced and team-oriented, with a focus on meeting production goals while maintaining quality and safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
