Phlebotomist, Inpatient - Full-Time, Night Shift

Job Description Inpatient Phlebotomist – Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department at University of Chicago Medicine, Hyde Park. This 100% onsite position requires drawing blood in adult non‑critical care units under minimal supervision. Based in the greater Chicagoland area. Essential Job Functions Perform venipuncture and skin punctures using Epic Beaker/Rover, delivering excellent customer service and adhering to all policies. Package specimens for delivery via pneumatic tube system or hand‑deliver as required. Provide collection instructions to patients and receive self‑collected urine samples. Check‑in patients and escort them to the room as needed. Stock blood‑drawing area/carts and keep the environment clean, safe, and sterile. Address patient order issues and communicate collection issues with appropriate clinic and hospital staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program. Ability to perform venipunctures and capillary punctures per CLSI guidelines. Thorough knowledge of asepsis and manual dexterity. Attention to detail and ability to follow directions and procedures. Ability to use institutional computer systems. Effective interaction with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare workers. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Accurate documentation of tasks. Capacity to work under stress and manage large patient volumes. Physical ability to stand, stoop, push, lift and walk up to 6 city blocks. Adaptability to a rapidly changing environment. Preferred Qualifications Phlebotomy (ASCP) certification or eligibility. 1–2 years of practical phlebotomy experience with references. Position Details Job type/FTE: Full‑time / 1.00 FTE. Shift: Day shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Work location: Hyde Park campus. Unit/Department: Nursing Phlebotomy Inpatient. CBA code: Non‑Union. Work schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week, generally on a day shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. You will not be scheduled for on‑call shifts.
