Job Description / Essential Elements: Conducts speech and language program as a result of screening and referrals conducted within the regular school program.

Essential Functions:

• Conducts Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings for each child referred, dismissed, or transferred to the school site.
• Responsible for establishing a therapy program and completing a therapy plan for each individual enrolled at the IEP meeting.
• Complies with all applicable legal requirements including participation in the IEP process.
• Schedules and maintains individual or group therapy according to the needs of the individual child as documented in the IEP.
• Prepares individual evaluation reports and programs and submits to the school for filing in students' cumulative file.
• Prepares other reports as uniformly required by the state, county, and district.
• Informs parents of enrolled children about therapy program and encourages their participation in therapy at home and at IEP meetings.
• Participates in all state/federal review processes as requested.
• Possesses ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written directions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Participates in professional growth activities such as classes, conferences, staff meetings, visitations, evaluation of new materials, etc.
• Refers children to other services when requested or needed.
• Requests anticipated needed materials and supplies for upcoming school year.
• Prepares schedule for principals and begins therapy by the 11th day of school and continues sessions through the week prior to school ending.
• Implements all duties in compliance with state and federal special education laws and mandates.
• Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

Qualifications:

• Skills to motivate students and to communicate with individuals from varied backgrounds.
• Knowledge of California State Standards, curriculum, education code, and Special Education law.
• Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.
• Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, and meet schedule deadlines.
• Ability to provide own transportation between school sites.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree with valid California Clinical or Rehabilitative Service Credential authorizing service in language, speech, and hearing.
• Teaching experience at various grade levels; knowledge of subject area and instructional methodologies and techniques.
• Master's Degree or post-graduate course work.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking.
• Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and require light physical effort.
• Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 lbs.
