Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a busy surgical oncology unit that serves a diverse patient population with both Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) needs. The unit is dedicated to excellence in patient care through a comprehensive approach that includes a focus on infection prevention and fall management.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care for adults and geriatrics, specifically focusing on surgical oncology patients.
• Administer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and manage oncologic emergencies.
• Conduct assessments and monitor patients for changes in condition while collaborating with interdisciplinary support teams.
• Utilize computerized charting effectively (Epic system).
• Participate in infection prevention protocols and patient safety initiatives.
• Float to other acute care oncology units as required, within the scope of practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year in PCU.
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Preferred certifications: ONS Chemo.
• Proficient in management of BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac telemetry, and chest tube care.
• Experience with insulin drips and heparin drips is highly valued.

Unit Details

The unit is recognized for its high-volume patient care, focusing on surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics. The unit maintained a goal staffing ratio of 1:4, though it may vary based on patient needs.

Scheduling Information

• Shift assignments may vary with the possibility of rotating between days and nights.
• Weekend shifts are scheduled based on unit needs, providing flexibility within the schedule.
• Orientation for new hires is 72 hours.
