What To Expect The Field Quality Engineering team’s mission is to improve the customer experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. The primary objective of this role is to root cause failures from the field, work cross-functionally for design changes and implement system and manufacturing controls to improve product quality. The successful candidate must be a problem‑solver at his or her core, have a strong quality and customer‑focused mindset, and possess the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continual improvement. What You’ll Do Lead cross‑functional problem‑solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root‑cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions. Monitor product field performance and identify trending issues. Perform technical root‑cause analysis of vehicle systems (Chassis, LV/HV, FW, Thermal). Drive containment and corrective action implementation into manufacturing line, design, and supplier processes. Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy‑in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency. Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions. Share lessons learned from previous field issues; provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs). Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology). What You’ll Bring Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, Power Electronics, Electronics) or equivalent experience. Relevant experience in failure analysis, manufacturing, quality, or service in consumer electronics or automotive. Specific training and demonstrated success applying quality problem‑solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc. For entry‑level candidates, co‑ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar vehicle. Broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, essential for building effective working relationships within Tesla and outside. Exceptional problem‑solving, failure analysis, strong attention to detail, and analytical thinking. Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data. Programming languages & tools: SQL, Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%). Must be detail oriented, effectively handle multiple priorities, and have a strong quality mindset to meet tight deadlines.
