Medical Receptionist
The Medical Receptionist is responsible for creating a positive patient experience from the moment patients enter the office or call for assistance. This role manages appointment scheduling, patient registration, insurance verification support, phone communications, and administrative tasks while maintaining accurate records within practice management and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Essential Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls while providing exceptional customer service.
- Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and update patient appointments.
- Check patients in and out efficiently and accurately.
- Collect and maintain patient demographic, insurance, and contact information.
- Verify insurance information and assist with front desk insurance-related processes.
- Maintain accurate records within the practice management system and EMR.
- Coordinate patient flow and communicate effectively with physicians and clinical staff.
- Respond to routine patient inquiries regarding appointments, office procedures, and scheduling.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming reception area.
- Assist with additional administrative and clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software systems.
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude.
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
Preferred
- Previous receptionist, front desk, or customer service experience.
- Experience in a medical office, healthcare setting, or ophthalmology practice.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and practice management software.
- Knowledge of patient registration and insurance verification processes.

Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, on-site position.
- Monday through Friday schedule.
- Must be able to accommodate occasional late office hours as needed.
- Fast-paced medical office environment supporting a two-provider ophthalmology practice.
