About the Position

We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Adult Intensivist for a locum tenens opportunity in a hospital-based ICU setting in North Dakota starting April 1, 2026, with ongoing coverage due to physician shortage.

This position is focused exclusively in the ICU within a 226-bed hospital featuring a 16-bed ICU and an additional 8 beds for PCU overflow. The ICU operates as an open unit, with some patients managed by hospitalists.

Schedule Details:

• Primarily night shifts: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM

• No call required

• Not required to remain in-house overnight (sleep room available if desired)

Patient & Clinical Details:

• Average census per intensivist: <13 patients

• Procedures vary based on patient complexity

• Supported by experienced ICU nursing staff and respiratory therapists

• No APP coverage during evening shifts

This is an excellent opportunity for physicians comfortable managing high-acuity adult ICU patients independently during night coverage.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine

• Active and unrestricted medical license

• Proficiency in the following procedures:

  • Bronchoscopy

  • Central line placement

  • Thoracentesis

  • Chest tube placement

  • Point-of-care ultrasound

• Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in an open ICU model
