Basic Function: Reporting to the Head Coach, the position is responsible forperforming assistant coaching duties and assisting the Head Coachin skills instruction in the sport program in adherence to thepolicies, rules and regulations of the University, NationalCollegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southern CaliforniaIntercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). Representative Duties Serves as assistant coach for the program; assists in coachingduring athletic events; coaches scheduled practice and workout sessions; assists in the development of practice and game plans; coaches team members, individually and in groups; demonstrates gametechniques; performs film review, analysis and exchange; performsother assistant coaching duties as assigned. E Recruits academically and athletically qualifiedstudent-athletes to meet the University's admission standards andenrollment goals. E Ensures compliance with University, NCAA and SCIAC obligations;maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicableUniversity, NCAA and SCIAC rules and regulations; briefsstudent-athletes and monitors adherence to rules and regulations.E Assists with California Lutheran University's sports camps,including (but not limited to) coaching and coordinating. E Provides general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to studentsregarding their overall success; promotes good sportsmanship.E Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge Of University, NCAA and SCIAC rules and regulations Compliance within NCAA Division III intercollegiate athleticsadministration Coaching theory and techniques; technical and tactical coachingof a position area Effective promotion of good sportsmanship, academic excellence,positive attitudes and character. The care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic sportsinjury first aid and emergency procedures. Principles of sports leadership and training. Film analysis techniques; video editing techniques for filmexchange. Basic liability and risk management issues. Ability To Scout and recruit quality student-athletes. Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes. Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with University, NCAA, and SCIAC rules and regulations. Objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics. Effectively teach fundamentals, skills, regulations, positiondetails and strategies of sport during preparation and practice sessions. Provide effective leadership to student-athletes to encourageboth successful academic development and competitiveperformance. Work within a team-oriented philosophy. Lift moderately heavy equipment and materials. Provide a safe environment for students, athletes, visitors,and other constituents. Analyze situations and adopt an effective course ofaction. Work independently, prioritize, schedule and completework. Communicate effectively, in oral and written forms. Maintain confidentiality of records and information. Maintain positive relationships with students, parents,guardians, colleagues, administrators, booster groups, foundations,and community organizations. Maintain files accurately, in paper and in softwareprograms. Handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Operate a personal computer and associated software. Coordinate and work summer camps. Operate a vehicle to travel and conduct work. Work flexible hours with frequent evenings and weekends. Travel locally or nationally. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in exercisescience, kinesiology, sports management, or related field and oneyear of coaching at the collegiate level. Preferred Qualifications: Division III coaching experience in the sport of preferably with aworking knowledge of NCAA rules compliance.A proven ability torecruit and retain quality student-athletes.Commitment to thevalues, standards and expectations of NCAA Division III athleticsand a liberal arts university. Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid California driver's license. Ability to obtain a Class B endorsed CDL License, insurancecoverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable. Possession of or ability to obtain CPR (cardiopulmonaryresuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator) and FirstAid certifications within 90 days of employment. Physical Abilities: Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and hear toexchange information; ability to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand,sit, bend, twist, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feeland reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; liftand/or move up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, ropes or ladders;specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheralvision; ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills neededfor athletic participation; ability to operate a vehicle to travelto various sites to conduct work; ability to maintain level ofphysical fitness to meet departmental standards. Working Environment: Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors; exposure tovarious weather conditions, including temperature extremes; Indoorwork environment may not be air-conditioned during hot weather;subject to vehicle operation to conduct work; travel is required;frequent weekend and evening hours are required.
