Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Havre Sector HQ, Sector Intelligence Unit, located in Havre, MT. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above. Duties Salary: $50,460.00 (GS‑07, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS‑09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $80,243.00 (GS‑9 Step 10). The Mission Support Specialist assists in providing direct advice and guidance to employees; developing and modifying administrative program work methods, approaches, or procedures for delivering effective services. Assisting in providing direct advice and guidance to USBP employees at headquarters and throughout the sector and independently coordinating the work of the assigned office for all administrative duties to include budget, inventory, property, fleet, workforce management, workers’ compensation, payroll, and travel. Serving as the assigned sector supplies specialist and facilitating tracking and support in maintaining vehicle board with current mileage, assigned agent, and next service due; arranging for delivery of tires, oil, and filters from the sector for local repairs and service; and arranging to shuttle vehicles to and from local garages for scheduled service in accordance with agency guidelines and supervisor guidance. Completing monthly purchase card statement reconciliation. Scheduling bulk fuel deliveries; receiving invoices in Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP); and arranging for payment on the bulk fuel purchase card. Requirements You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position. Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service. Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. All pre‑employment processes will be conducted in English. You may be required to pass a background investigation. CBP follows the DHS Drug‑Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures. Bargaining Unit: This is a bargaining unit covered position, represented under the National Border Patrol Council – NBPC. Qualifications Experience – GS‑07 1 year of specialized experience at GS‑05 level or equivalent, performing duties such as preparing reports by utilizing databases and automated systems, developing tracking and filing systems for incoming and outgoing documents, performing physical inventory and reporting inventory status, and conducting analysis of data used by management. Experience – GS‑09 1 year of specialized experience at GS‑07 level or equivalent, performing duties such as developing and delivering briefings to managers, collecting and reviewing time and attendance for employees, processing invoices of purchases with the agency’s fleet card, and assisting in researching, developing, and analyzing internal policies. Education GS‑07 – Successful completion of one year of full‑time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. Alternatively, superior academic achievement (bachelor’s degree with GPA ≥ 3.0) may substitute. GS‑09 – A master’s degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or LL.B. may substitute for the experience required. Education and experience may be combined to meet a 100 % total qualification requirement. Background Investigation CBP requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment. Residency and Probationary Period Applicants not currently employed by CBP must have physically resided in the United States for at least three of the last five years. All employees new to the federal government must serve a one‑year probationary period in the first year of their initial permanent federal appointment.
