Stockroom Specialist

Job Description

The Stockroom Specialist packages and ships a wide variety of components and assemblies, manages incoming and outgoing materials, and maintains accurate inventory records in a dynamic manufacturing stockroom. This role serves as a critical last audit point for receiving documentation, supports lean initiatives, and helps ensure that customer orders ship accurately and on tim.

Responsibilities

• Package boxes, trays, crates, and prepare final shipment of a wide variety of components and assemblies according to specific customer requirements.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of packaging requirements for each customer and operate relevant packaging equipment safely and efficiently.
• Scan shipping documents and associated paperwork, saving and organizing them to the local drive for accurate record keeping.
• Order trucks for shipment of non-standard deliveries, coordinating timing and logistics to meet customer expectations.
• Receive inbound goods both physically and electronically in the mainframe system, including counting, verifying, and documenting incoming parts, products, and materials.
• Distribute incoming shipment contents to appropriate stockroom or production locations in a timely and organized manner.
• Act as the final audit point to ensure all receiving documentation is complete, accurate, and present before materials move forward in the process.
• Coordinate with team members and other departments to resolve receiving and shipping issues quickly and effectively.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records, including filing and documentation, to support traceability and compliance requirements.
• Manage the consignment area for vendor-managed inventory, ensuring materials are properly tracked and available.
• Perform cycle counts of inventory, reconcile discrepancies, and properly code and dispose items in the mainframe in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Complete stock put-aways by placing materials into appropriate stocking locations, maintaining organization and accessibility within the stockroom.
• Actively support and implement lean principles to improve stockroom layout, processes, and efficiency.
• Participate with plant leadership to address and resolve conflicts caused by unpredictable variances affecting the master schedule, such as changing priorities, engineering changes, material shortages, scrap or repairs, labor constraints, and equipment availability.
• Foster positive working relationships with team members and respond proactively to performance concerns, discipline issues, and employee relations matters within the stockroom environment.
• Train and onboard new employees on stockroom and shipping functional tasks, sharing best practices and safety expectations.
• Perform any additional responsibilities as required or directed to support the overall goals of the Operations Team.

Essential Skills

• At least 2+ years of experience receiving in a warehouse or stockroom environment.
• Hands-on experience with inventory software and/or word processing software.
• Proficiency in receiving, shipping, stockroom operations, inventory control, and material handling.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills to perform electronic receiving, documentation, and record keeping in a mainframe or similar system.
• Attention to detail with strong record keeping and filing capabilities.
• Ability to sustain regular standing, walking, sitting, lifting, bending, and carrying up to 40 lbs.
• Capability to understand and follow specific customer packaging requirements and use related packaging equipment.
• Comfort working in a stockroom within a manufacturing environment with a large number of parts and SKUs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with vendor-managed inventory and consignment stock areas.
• Experience in cycle counting and resolving inventory discrepancies in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Familiarity with lean principles and participation in continuous improvement or stockroom reorganization projects.
• Experience working with a master schedule and adapting to changing priorities, engineering changes, and material availability.
• Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships and address employee concerns constructively.
• Previous experience training or onboarding new team members on functional tasks.

Work Environment

This role is based in a stockroom within a manufacturing facility that is smaller than a traditional warehouse and contains approximately 16,000 unique parts. The standard shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the expectation of openness to overtime and weekend work as needed to support production and shipping demands. New hires complete training on the day shift for approximately 2–4 weeks, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to learn stockroom processes, systems, and safety practices. You will work closely with a team of about 4–6 colleagues in a collaborative environment and report into onsite supervision. The facility focuses on precision diaphragm and bulk gas valves, regulators, and flow control components, and is actively reorganizing the stockroom to support lean principles and increased capacity. The environment involves regular movement, material handling, and use of computer systems for mainframe transactions and documentation, with attire appropriate for a manufacturing and stockroom setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, CA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
