JOB SUMMARYAssist Pinal County residents with access to Community Health Nutrition Programs (CHNP) including the Women Infants & Children (WIC) program, nutritional counseling, education and training, serve as lead worker and assist Nutrition Specialists with priority cases and complex client assessments, and provide services according to Public Health Services Department (PHSD) policies and procedures under basic supervision.
Typical Classification Essential Duties
- Assist PHSD clients with information and services for a variety of Community Health Nutrition Programs (CHNP) including the Federal Women Infants & Children (WIC) program, and other nutritional counseling programs and support services and perform duties within scope of authority and training and in compliance with County policies.
- Work with high priority and complicated client counseling cases and perform complex assessment and certification formula calculations.
- Monitor inventory of CHNP supplies and re-order supplies as needed and verify and report supplies inventory monthly.
- Interview clients, document income status and current living conditions, and determine eligibility for CHNP services.
- Evaluate clients' nutrition and health-related needs, discuss and document clients' eating habits, health history, and current medical condition, and work with client to develop personal goals and a nutrition care plan.
- Counsel and educate clients on proper nutrition practices, provide educational material and personalized information on CHNP and PHSD programs, and refer clients to other service providers as needed.
- Assist clients in accessing other health care professionals, regional agencies, and community services programs.
- Monitor ongoing quality assurance activities on laboratory results and record keeping procedures.
- Maintain case file records and collect, compile, and report data on program participation.
- Provide outreach programs to explain the nature of PHSD programs and services to community groups and identify, evaluate, and report community needs.
- Assist with training and cross-training of Nutrition Specialists.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of professional work experience in public health programs.

- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

- Bi-lingual English-Spanish language skills.
- Successful completion of training programs by Arizona Department of Health Services is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state public health program regulations and requirements, including Arizona Department of Health Services procedures and standards, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other grant funded programs.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of nutrition, therapeutic nutrition, and child development.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for assisting public health clients.
- Knowledge of regional community service agencies, community resources, public health programs, and other public assistance programs for appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
- Skill in providing effective client services including interviewing, teaching, counseling, and records management.
- Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Skill in explaining state laws and County policies and procedures governing public health functions.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Ability to use courtesy and respect in providing client services.
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the ability to crouch, feel, finger, grasp, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, lift, pull, push, to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, hear, speak, stand, stoop, walk, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.
Work Environment:Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
This position is Grant Funded and continued employment is contingent upon available funding. The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.NOTICE TO APPLICANTS
