Assistant Project Manager

About the Company A growing design-build construction company is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of ground-up commercial construction projects throughout the Austin area. About the Role The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Preconstruction professionals, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Responsibilities Assist the Project Manager with the planning and execution of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Coordinate with the design, estimating, operations, and field teams throughout the design-build process. Manage and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and project documentation. Review construction drawings and specifications to identify conflicts, missing information, and constructability concerns. Assist with subcontractor procurement, bid leveling, scope reviews, contract administration, and buyout. Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, cost reports, and forecasts. Review subcontractor payment applications, invoices, and change-order requests. Maintain accurate project records within the company’s construction management software. Participate in owner, architect, contractor, and subcontractor meetings. Prepare meeting minutes, progress reports, action-item logs, and project updates. Work closely with the Superintendent to coordinate field activities, deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor performance. Monitor project progress and communicate potential schedule, cost, quality, or safety concerns. Assist with quality-control inspections, punch-list management, commissioning, and project closeout. Build strong working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal team members. Ensure all work complies with project requirements, company procedures, and applicable safety standards. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Two or more years of experience in commercial construction. Previous experience with a general contractor or design-build construction company preferred. Experience supporting ground-up commercial projects such as office, healthcare, industrial, education, hospitality, municipal, or retail developments. Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, schedules, budgets, and project closeout. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications. Strong communication, organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Build, or similar platforms. Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Preferred Skills Design-build or negotiated commercial construction experience. Experience assisting with subcontractor buyout and procurement. Exposure to preconstruction, estimating, value engineering, and design coordination. Experience working on commercial projects valued between $5 million and $50 million. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
