About The 'Sota Project

The 'Sota Project is Minnesota's home for students who are ready to challenge attacks on our futures and build a Minnesota where Gen Z can lead and thrive. We are building a large-scale organizing and digital programming to reach and mobilize students across the state.

The outcome of Minnesota's elections this year will be critical. Young Minnesotans will have the opportunity to elect leaders who will be instrumental in reshaping a government that works for young people. With over 90 colleges and universities in Minnesota and hundreds of thousands of student voters, Gen Z has the numbers and the power to determine the outcomes of these elections.

The 'Sota Project will empower students to be leaders in their communities through voter registration, education, peer-to-peer outreach, and turnout efforts that reach students on campuses across the state.

We're building a scrappy and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across Minnesota inspiring thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote.

This will be a crucial year for Minnesota, and we are in need of talented, dedicated staff ready to take on this challenge with us.

About the Role

The Organizing Director leads The 'Sota Project's field program. You will build and manage the organizing team that moves student voters across Minnesota, from Duluth to Mankato to the Twin Cities. You report to the State Director and work in close partnership with the Senior Advisor, in-state partners, and national allies.

This is a senior, hands-on role. You will hire and coach Regional Organizing Directors, Campus Organizers, and student fellows. You will set weekly metrics, hold the team to them, and adapt the program in real time as the cycle ramps up. You will make sure every young person in our target universe gets reached, and that every contact feels part of the same story.

The role runs approximately eight months, starting in summer 2026 and running through January 2027. This position is based in Minnesota and requires a significant amount of in-person work and statewide travel.

What Will You Do?

• Build and manage the organizing team. Hire, train, and coach Regional Organizing Directors, Campus Organizers, and student fellows. Run 1:1s, team meetings, and weekly trainings that keep the team sharp, motivated, and moving.

• Own the field plan. In partnership with the State Director, set the strategic direction of the organizing program: voter registration, voter education, relational organizing, digital organizing, GOTV. Turn the plan into weekly metrics and make sure we hit them.

• Run the major moments. Plan and execute Welcome Weeks, voter registration weekends of action, dry runs, and GOTV. Build the mobilizations that turn pressure into turnout.

• Keep the data tight. Run a strong VAN program. Set standards for data entry, reporting, and list hygiene. Use the numbers to coach the team and adjust the plan.

• Adapt The 'Sota Project brand on the ground. Work with the State Director, creative partners, and students to design activations, stunts, and merch that get repeated, worn, and shared. Make it feel like a party, not a pamphlet.

• Build a team culture worth staying for. Create a workplace that is inclusive, solutions-oriented, and honest. Develop the next generation of organizers and student leaders.

• Coordinate across the project. Work in sync with Operations, Data, Digital, and Voter Access leads, and hold relationships with partner organizations and statewide tables.

Who Are You?

• Experienced organizer. You have at least two cycles of campaign or organizing experience, with at least one cycle managing staff. Campus organizing experience is a plus.

• Strong manager. You have run teams before. You know how to hire well, give real feedback, and keep people accountable without burning them out.

• Strategic and scrappy. You can write a field plan and also pick up a clipboard. You are flexible, resourceful, and comfortable building the plane while flying it.

• Passion for the work. You have a passion for progressive politics and inspiring young people to get involved.

• Strong communicator. You can hold the room in a staff meeting, a funder meeting, or a conversation with a first-time student organizer.

• Familiar with Minnesota. You understand college campuses and the civic and political landscape in Minnesota. Existing relationships with student leaders and organizers are a plus.

• Ready to travel. You have a driver's license and reliable transportation and are eager to get on the road and onto campuses. You can work weekends and irregular hours as the cycle demands.

Compensation and Details

Compensation for this role is $7,000 per month, with a generous benefits package. This is a full-time role with an expected run of approximately eight months, starting in May 2026 and ending in January 2027, with the possibility of extension.

The position is based in Minnesota and requires regular in-person work across the state.
