Per Diem Nurse - Gynecologic Oncology Center

The experts at UT MD Anderson's Laura Lee Blanton Gynecologic Oncology Center have a history of pioneering new treatments for gynecologic cancers. Our research proved that cervical cancer can be treated more effectively with chemotherapy and radiation instead of radiation alone, changing the standard of care for cervical cancer. Our doctors created the MD Anderson Algorithm, a scientific method of choosing the best candidates for ovarian cancer surgery that has greatly increased the rate of complete tumor removal and may affect overall survival.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of RN experience preferably in an inpatient or ambulatory/outpatient setting; gynecologic oncology experience is a plus.

Shift: Monday - Friday, mustbe flexible hours are based on business needs

Per Diem Rate: $52 an hour

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Per Diem Outpatient Clinical Nurse position is to coordinate and implement patient care across the continuum of care. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse is accountable and responsible for providing quality, evidence-based patient care through the appropriate use of resources in collaboration with the inter-professional team. Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights. Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team; trains, coaches, and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

KEY FUNCTIONS
a. Participate in daily unit operations to achieve and maintain financial goals by utilizing all resources effectively and efficiently

Provides quality and fiscally responsible patient care
Proactively anticipates patient and family needs in collaboration with the Charge Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, and Associate Director
Utilizes available material resources responsibly for direct patient care

b. Practices autonomously within the scope of professional nursing practice - patient care competency

c. Participates in change initiatives
Demonstrates loyalty and commitment to the unit's inter-professional team
Incorporates the process of change in daily practice

d. Fosters peer relationships and participates in coaching and mentoring

e. Supports an environment that values and respects the variation of staff and patients - patient care competency.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing (RN).
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing

EXPERIENCE
Required: One year of relevant clinical nursing experience.
Preferred: One year of relevant clinical nursing experience in an inpatient or ambulatory/outpatient setting. Gynecologic oncology experience is a plus.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
OCN - Oncology Nursing Certification; certification in oncology or specialty area.
