We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join a growing accounting team in Maryland. This contract opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented candidate who enjoys working across core accounting functions, contributing to accurate financial reporting, and supporting a smooth close process. The role offers meaningful exposure to day-to-day accounting operations while partnering with colleagues across the business in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:
• Record and review journal entries to keep the general ledger accurate and current.
• Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other key financial records.
• Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities by preparing schedules and resolving outstanding items.
• Examine financial results, research variances, and address discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Provide support for accounts payable and accounts receivable processes when additional coverage is needed.
• Prepare audit support materials and organize documentation required for internal or external review.
• Maintain fixed asset activity, including depreciation tracking and related accounting records.
• Assist with financial and management reporting by compiling data and preparing supporting analysis.
• Follow established accounting policies and internal controls while working with cross-functional teams to support business goals.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Hands-on knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting practices.
• Experience participating in month-end and year-end close processes.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and analytical functions.
• Experience with Sage 300 is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience collaborating in fast-paced environments.
