The Deputy Chief of Staff is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities, clinical staff and administrative oversight. Primary duties include but are not limited to:

• Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care.
• Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to support an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls.
• Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care.
• Promotes the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching and encouraging self-assessment.
• Works with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of VHA and VA.
• Accomplishes clinical program goals consistent with available resources and participate in the allocation of facility resources and modification of programs to best meet the needs of the Veteran population.
• Monitors and promotes compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to outside professional activities and ethical conduct.
• Creates and promotes a High Reliability Organization, fostering an environment of system oriented continuous quality improvement, within which program and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated.
• Provide oversight of the credentialing and privileging facility to include oversight of regulatory and legal issue, monitoring medical staff and other licensed independent practitioner's compliance and quality of practice.
