Cnc Operator
$30 - $36 per hourThis role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines to produce high-quality precision machined parts in a prototype and low-volume environment. You will interpret technical drawings and blueprints, monitor machine operations, perform detailed quality inspections, and ensure all components meet strict specifications and tolerances. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and confidence working with precision measuring instruments and modern CNC equipment.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC machines, including Haas and other CNC equipment, to produce precision parts from mixed materials in prototype and low-volume production runs.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate machining and proper selection of tools, speeds, and feeds.
- Monitor machine operations continuously and make necessary adjustments to maintain part quality, dimensional accuracy, and production efficiency.
- Load and unload parts safely and efficiently, ensuring proper fixturing and secure workholding throughout the machining process.
- Verify first-piece and in-process dimensions using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges, and adjust processes as needed.
- Maintain accurate production logs, equipment run-time records, and other required documentation to support traceability and quality systems.
- Inspect machined parts to confirm they meet design specifications, tolerances, and surface finish requirements, performing both dimensional and visual inspections.
- Document and report any discrepancies, non-conformances, or quality issues, and communicate them promptly to CNC setup operators and manufacturing leadership.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic adjustments, to minimize downtime and extend machine life.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, coordinating with the maintenance team for more complex repairs and servicing.
- Monitor consumables such as cutting tools and coolant, and report or replace them as necessary to maintain consistent machining performance.
- Clean machines and work areas daily to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Retrieve raw materials and components from inventory, handle machined parts carefully to prevent damage, and organize finished parts for downstream operations such as welding, powder coating, and assembly.
- Maintain an organized work area by following 5S standards, including proper storage and return of unused materials.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment, including consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and support ISO 9001 compliance through accurate and timely documentation.
- Participate in safety training, promptly report safety hazards or concerns, and contribute actively to a strong culture of safety.
- Assist in developing and improving machining processes, techniques, and workflows, offering suggestions for process improvements where appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with CNC programmers, CNC setup operators, and production teams to meet project deadlines and production priorities.
- Provide support to other machine shop personnel as needed and communicate clearly with manufacturing teams regarding component readiness and scheduling.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating CNC machines, with demonstrated hands-on CNC machining proficiency.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints to guide machining operations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills in a machining environment.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality and precision in all work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as required by shop activities.
- Good manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination for handling parts, tools, and equipment.
- Safety-focused mindset with consistent adherence to established protocols and procedures.
- Reliable, punctual work habits and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional manufacturing and engineering teams.
- Technical certification or associate degree in machining or a related field.
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment, with 5+ years considered a strong plus.
- Familiarity with CNC programming concepts and G-code to support setup and troubleshooting.
- Experience working in contract manufacturing or high-mix production environments.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in precision machining.
- Experience operating multiple CNC machine types, including mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines.
- Experience specifically with Haas CNC machines and similar platforms.
- Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment.
- Demonstrated focus on process improvement and a willingness to suggest and implement improvements.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and work requirements in a dynamic production environment.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a manufacturing facility specializing in advanced production methods, including additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly. You will primarily operate Haas and other CNC machines, working on prototype and low-volume jobs using mixed materials. The shift runs during the day from 6:15 AM to 2:45 PM, providing a consistent schedule. The shop environment is hands-on and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on safety, organization, and cleanliness, supported by 5S practices and ISO 9001-compliant processes. You will regularly use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges, as well as standard machine shop equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and forms an integral part of daily operations. The facility supports collaborative work with engineers, programmers, and other production teams, offering exposure to a broad mix of components and manufacturing methods.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
