Part-Time Kinesiology Instructor (Pool)

Position Information Position Title: Associate Instructor – Kinesiology Position ID: FY18/19-801POOL Campus: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA Position Summary PART‑TIME , ASSOCIATE FACULTY POOL – This part‑time position is for an Associate Instructor teaching lecture‑discussion courses in day, evening, Saturday, or online/distance education formats during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. Assignment The assignment may require teaching lecture‑discussion courses during daytime, evening, or on Saturday and/or in an on‑line/distance education format. Work location is Mission College, Santa Clara, CA. This position is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554). Salary and Benefits Salary is a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load, prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $36,191 – $52,297 per semester. Benefits are as per the West Valley‑Mission Community College District policy. Minimum Qualifications Education – Possess any one of the following: Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy; OR A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Kinesiology; OR The equivalent of the above. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. Desired Qualifications Experience in teaching a variety of classes at the community college level. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or on‑line/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class or online. Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college. Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due. Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices. Maintain office hours each week, at .5 hours per week per section. Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college. Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook. Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services. Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the member’s area of expertise. Work cooperatively within the college community. Foster an environment that protects academic freedom within the college community. Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias. Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual. Other Duties Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the college’s mission and instructional activities. Foreign degrees must include official certification of equivalency by a certified U.S. credential review service, with course‑by‑course evaluation. Transcripts must not be encrypted, secured, or password‑protected. Equivalency Information Submit the District’s Equivalency Application if your degree does not match the discipline(s) stated in the Minimum Qualifications. List accurately and completely courses that match the required degree. Do NOT attach documents such as course evaluations. Selection Process Applications will be screened by appropriate department representatives on an as‑needed basis. Qualified applicants who best meet the division’s needs will be contacted for an interview. Travel expenses to attend the interview are the candidate’s responsibility.
