As a Full-Time Groundskeeper with the City of Pharr, you will take on diverse responsibilities that ensure our public parks and facilities remain clean and inviting. Your daily tasks will include gathering and emptying trash to promote a tidy environment and caring for established lawns through mulching, aerating, weeding, and removing thatch. You will expertly trim and edge around flower beds, walkways, and walls to enhance aesthetic appeal.

Additionally, you will maintain irrigation systems, ensuring they function efficiently by winterizing them in colder months and starting them up in spring. Your role will also involve mixing and applying fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides to promote healthy growth of grass, shrubs, and trees. Finally, you will inspect equipment and structures to identify and resolve any issues, contributing to the overall safety and quality of our community spaces.

To excel as a Full-Time Groundskeeper with the City of Pharr, candidates must possess a diverse skill set. A strong knowledge of machines and tools is essential, as you will be responsible for their operation, repair, and maintenance. Understanding the chemical composition and properties of various substances is crucial for effectively applying fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides. The ability to comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions is necessary for executing daily tasks accurately. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in making minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment, as well as identifying causes of operating errors.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of the chemical composition structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment. Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
• Ability to repair machines or systems using the needed tools.
