Baystate Health is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Peri-Anesthesia Unit (PANU) at Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our PANU team provides specialized pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for adult and pediatric surgical patients undergoing a wide range of procedures. Nurses work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, perioperative staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure safe, high-quality care throughout the surgical experience.

This per diem opportunity offers experienced nurses the chance to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment supporting the region's only Level I Trauma Center while maintaining scheduling flexibility. You'll collaborate with a highly skilled team dedicated to clinical excellence, patient safety, and outstanding patient outcomes.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Will:

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for pre-operative and post-anesthesia patients.
• Provide comprehensive patient assessments and monitor patients recovering from anesthesia.
• Prepare patients and families for surgical procedures through education and clinical evaluation.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Ensure safe patient transitions throughout the perioperative continuum of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and an exceptional patient experience.

Schedule Details

• Job Type: Per Diem
• Shift: Days
• Hours: Per Diem, as needed
• Schedule: Variable day shifts based on department needs
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend shifts per 6-week period (or shifts equivalent to 24 hours)
• On-Call Requirement: No on-call requirement
• Other Scheduling Requirements: 4 shifts per 6-week period (or shifts equivalent to 48 hours); 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday required. Shifts are defined and posted by the unit. Scheduling is managed by the Unit Manager. Unit-Based PRN staff follow the facility's low-census cancellation order and may float according to the facility float grid.

Required Skills

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
• Minimum one (1) year of RN experience required.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Previous PACU, Pre-Op, Peri-Anesthesia, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Surgical Services, or ICU experience preferred.
• ACLS and PALS certification preferred.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.
