The Opportunity

The Lead Medical Coordinator oversees all health services for children in care — ensuring timely, appropriate medical, dental, mental health, and public health support. Working within their professional licensure and scope of practice, the Lead Medical Coordinator reviews children’s health records and coordinates and initiates referrals and service orders across departments in collaboration with clinical and case management staff, and supervises and trains medical coordination staff.

Please note: This is a grant-funded, term-limited position for up to three years. Continuation is contingent on grant funding.

What You Will Own

• Oversee and coordinate urgent, emergent, and preventative health services, including scheduling appointments and coordinating transportation.

• Review children’s health records and, consistent with licensure and scope of practice, coordinate and initiate referrals and service orders across departments.

• Supervise, train, and mentor medical coordination staff; provide guidance on pediatric, adolescent, and child health; complete evaluations and payroll approvals.

• Develop and maintain policies for confidential health records, triage, medical emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post-discharge care coordination.

• Ensure compliance with applicable health-services regulations, HIPAA, CARF standards, and NC DHHS licensing; provide ongoing quality assurance.

• Maintain complete, confidential medical records and monitor entries in the program’s electronic health record (EHR) system.

• Serve as primary liaison with providers, insurers, and facilities; ensure interpretation/translation services; serve as medical chaperone as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) licensed to practice in North Carolina.

• Minimum one (1) year in public health or a health care setting, with care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care experience.

• Demonstrated supervisory experience.

• Bilingual English/Spanish required.

• Knowledge of medical terminology, health care regulations, and HIPAA; proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn an EHR system.

• Must be at least 21 years of age. Employment is contingent on successful completion of all required background checks and credentialing, including FBI fingerprint, state repository, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender registry checks, and proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a licensed foster care or children’s health services program.

• Experience with pediatric, adolescent, and child health and care coordination.

• CARF accreditation and NC DHHS licensing familiarity.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $93,500 – $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits include group health, dental, and vision insurance; employer-paid basic life insurance (coverage begins after the eligibility period); paid time off and paid federal holidays; professional development; GSA-rate mileage reimbursement; and workers’ compensation per N.C.G.S. § 97-2.
