Job Summary

The Vice President of Systems Development leads a high-performing team of technology professionals to create and implement a technical strategy and provide business value by delivering superior IT solutions. Primary responsibilities include engagement and management of internal stakeholders and external vendors to understand business needs and how people, processes and technology can enable and improve operations and critical business processes. The role provides leadership in the research and development of new technologies, innovation, and creativity to drive improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides strategic direction and leadership to the Systems Development department. Formulates and communicates a clear vision for the organization's systems development efforts, aligning them with overall company goals.

• Proactively identifies and pursues continuous improvement opportunities to support the business needs with software applications that engage and enable users to operate more effectively and efficiently.

• Stays updated with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices. Oversees the development of software solutions using the latest technologies and frameworks. Adapts the latest technologies and methodologies to enhance the organization's systems development capabilities.

• Implements and oversees Agile/Scrum methodologies to manage multiple projects effectively. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards.

• Builds and manages a diverse and inclusive team of skilled professionals. Fosters a collaborative work environment and encourages innovation and creativity. Mentors and develops team members to enhance skills and contribute to professional growth.

• Effectively communicates complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Manages relationships with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless collaboration and project success.

• Ensures the development of secure and resilient systems by implementing best practices in cybersecurity. Addresses potential cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities proactively.

• Allocate resources efficiently by optimizing costs and ensuring projects are financially viable. Assess the financial impact of technology-related decisions and investments.

• Travels as needed for meetings, events and/or professional development.

• Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business. 

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of systems development and software engineering experience with progressive levels of responsibility are required.

• Experience required includes leading and delivering complex software projects to business specifications on time and within budget.

• Supervisory/management experience at the director level or above required.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or related technical field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in business or technical field preferred

• Experience with leading a technically complex organization and external resource management preferred.

• Experience with real estate industry applications and systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• In-depth knowledge of programming languages, software development methodologies, and modern software architectures.

• Familiarity with cybersecurity industry best practices and regulatory requirements..

• Knowledge of software development lifecycle process and methodology

• Knowledge of application programming for a variety of business contexts

• Technologically savvy and knowledgeable of emerging technological trends and industry best practices

• Business acumen and systems analysis expertise to capture business requirements for application development.

• Knowledge of RESTful API design and usage

• Familiarity with relational database design, artificial intelligence, and machine learning principles and concepts

• Functional proficiency in programming languages and software tools necessary to implement and support enterprise solutions (e.g., C#, T-SQL, JavaScript, Go, Python, Git, Terraform)

• Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems

• Knowledge of Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server

• Knowledge of C# programming language and the .NET Framework

• Broad knowledge of user experience (UX) discipline and user interface (UI) development.

• Innovative thinking and strategic orientation to identify technological opportunities for improvement and develop novel solutions.

• Strategic leadership and tactical management skills to select, develop, coach, and direct the performance of IT management and professionals.

• Formal project management knowledge and skills, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, documenting, and reporting to ensure completion on time and within budget by applying best practices and tools.

• Consultative and facilitation skills to guide end users to evaluate and select optimal software solutions and applications.

• Ability to solve complex and analytical problems independently, identify multiple solutions, and present options and recommendations for resolution.

• Skill and ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing with executive presence, including technically complex information to a non-technical audience.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain appropriate discretion.

• Ability to travel as needed for meetings and/or company events.
