The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 114 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 60,000 outpatient visits, 25,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,000 gynecological surgeries per year. Teaching, research and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Job Summary
The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) / Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to join our dynamic team within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians. In this role, the APP/APN will provide high-quality medical services across multiple areas, including well-woman care, problem visits, post-operative care, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Candidates will be heavily involved in our Labor & Delivery unit and will participate in rounding and patient management. Responsibilities

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications:

Candidates will be heavily involved in our Labor & Delivery unit and will participate in rounding and patient management. Responsibilities
- Provide direct primary health care to patients, in collaboration with consulting physician and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification, management, and/or referral of health problems.
- Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develop patient care plans within clinical nursing practice and medical care protocols.
- Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; screen patients to determine the need for hospital admission, making referrals to other disciplines as indicated, write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Evaluate outcomes of care delivered to patients and initiates changes in the nursing approach accordingly.
- Participate in development of collaborative practice arrangements.
- Assume accountability for patient care in making decisions, prescribing appropriate medications as set forth in the delegation of prescriptive authority, prescribing appropriate treatments, delegating tasks, and maintaining a comfortable environment for the patient.
- Collaborate with and act as liaison among the nurse, patient, family, physician, and community resources for coordination of patient care.
- Select appropriate communications approaches to achieve desired outcomes of patient care.
- Actively pursue required knowledge and skills for professional development.
- Identify and participate in quality assurance issues on the unit.
- May participate in health education in the community.
- May participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.
- May prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
- Act as a resource for clinical skills to staff on or off the unit.
- May participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.
- Practice specific and invasive procedure privileges are detailed in each APNs/APPs Delineation of Privileges.
- Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.
- Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.
- Performs other related work as needed.

--- Preferred Qualifications Education:
- Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing.
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
- Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
- Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
- Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
- Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
- Demonstrated clinical competency with effective leadership and teaching skills.
- Ability to conduct physical examinations and perform health assessments.
- Ability to interview patients and obtain accurate medical information.
- Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional, respectful, and compassionate manner.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinical practices.
- Ability to perform detailed work and manage multiple concurrent tasks, including with occasional interruptions.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to act as a resource for colleagues and participate in teaching and mentorship.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Strong analytical skills to assess situations and implement solutions efficiently.
- Willingness to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
- Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.
- Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through the University of Chicago Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
- Clinical setting.
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting during patient assessments, procedures, and operating room assistance.
- May require participation in on-call or after-hours coverage depending on clinical service needs.
- Regular use of computers, electronic health records, and other medical equipment for documentation and patient care.
