Pay Rate: $58.06–$62.06 / Hour (USD)

Shift / Schedule: Night (3x12 Hours), 18:45–07:15

Job Summary

This is a fast-paced, high-acuity Labor and Delivery travel nursing position on a unit that is busier and of higher acuity than might be normally expected. The Birthing Care Unit has an obstetrical triage unit to allow for screening of patients prior to admission and to perform routine outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, and medication administration. Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean Births and rescue cervical cerclage are performed. Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on the unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for all intrapartum and for high-risk antepartum and postpartum care.
• Care for under 16-week high-risk patients on the high-risk maternity unit.
• Perform screening of patients prior to admission through the obstetrical triage unit.
• Perform routine outpatient procedures including antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, and medication administration.
• Circulate for scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean Births and rescue cervical cerclage.
• Manage double labor assignments as a daily occurrence on the unit.
• Float as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit.
• Work every other weekend, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.

Required Skills

• Experience in a large/high-volume Labor and Delivery setting with greater than 300 births per month.
• Competency in circulating (strongly prefer RN with circulate to OR experience).
• Competency in sterile vaginal exam.
• Competency in immediate newborn care.
• Proficiency with unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience to be comfortable working on this unit, as it can be challenging for less experienced nurses; 3 years preferred.
• Experience in a large/high-volume similar setting required (unit will accept 1st-time travelers).
• Local candidates accepted.

Education Requirements

• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification required.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Ratios: 2:1; average 20 births in 24 hours, 30–40 admits, 40 visits/day, 20 rooms.
• Unit is very fast-paced, busier and of higher acuity than might be normally expected.
• May not be realistic for nurses to take 48-hour contracts on this unit due to how busy it is.
• Float required as needed to Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
• Call Requirement: None.
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only).
• Scrubs provided (blue).
• Unit orientation: 24.0 hours.

Important Notes

• RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is NOT allowed and is NOT allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• RTO maximum: 7 days for AYA Auto Offer.
• Unit will accept 13–26 week contracts.
• COVID-19 vaccination: Not required.
