Position: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Shift: 3x12 Night shifts per week (Typically 5 PM - 5 AM)

Scheduling: Open to blocked scheduling for weekends (Friday to Sunday). Every other weekend required. Holidays per unit schedule.

Job Description Summary

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols. The nurse ensures that they possess the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver age-appropriate care for patients. They play a key role in coordinating patient care within an interdisciplinary team and provide education to ensure safe patient discharge.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily rounds on all patients to ensure quality customer service and address unmet requirements.
• Develop and implement a plan of care based on patient assessments that reflect their physical, psychological, social, educational, and rehabilitative needs.
• Assess patient conditions and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe nursing actions accordingly.
• Monitor and address the patient's self-reported symptoms of pain, taking appropriate action as necessary.
• Identify early warning signs of changes in patient conditions and respond appropriately to deteriorating situations.
• Assist with or implement emergency measures for unexpected adverse developments in patient conditions.
• Document and report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the multidisciplinary team accurately and promptly.
• Begin discharge planning and provide education and counseling to optimize patient and family understanding as early as possible.
• Delegate nursing interventions to other qualified personnel as appropriate within their scope of practice.
• Complete any other duties as required to fulfill departmental or organizational needs.

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse | North Dakota Board of Nursing or Compact State Agreement (Prior to Start Date)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) | American Heart Association (AHA) (Prior to Start Date)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) | American Heart Association (AHA) (Prior to Start Date)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) | American Heart Association (AHA) (Prior to Start Date)
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (Upon qualification into course)
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) (Upon qualification into course)
• NIHSS | American Heart Association (AHA) (Prior to Start Date)
