Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Medical-Surgical Specialty: Women's Medicine Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Active nursing license Certifications: BLS certification Must-Have: Must pass an ECG exam Description: Must pass an ECG exam on day 2. A study guide is available, and a study session is offered by the clinical team the week prior to start. The unit has 48 private rooms, including three negative pressure rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are approximately 4:1 to 5:1. Electronic medical record system is used. There are two charge nurses; charge nurses do not take patients. The main charge nurse manages the bedboard and assignments. The second charge nurse serves as a resource and rounds on patients. When staffing levels are low, the second charge nurse may take patients. Clinical technicians assist in patient care, with a ratio of approximately 8:1 to 10:1. A unit secretary is available for administrative support. The weekend requirement is four weekend shifts every six weeks. Weekend shifts for nights are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holidays are rotated among staff. Scrub color is navy blue. Telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry are used for monitoring patients. Patients are monitored remotely 24/7. Medication management includes heparin drips, cardiac drips, and insulin drips without titration. High flow, CPAP, and BiPAP are available. There are hospitalists in-house 24/7. IV team is available for placing midlines and PICC lines. Clinical technicians and registered nurses start IVs and draw blood on the unit. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are accessible around the clock. Shifts are 12 hours long. Self-scheduling is available, and block scheduling can be accommodated. Floating to other medical-surgical units may occur. Orientation includes three shifts on the unit with a preceptor. Common patient diagnoses include acute respiratory failure, CHF exacerbation, falls, and more. End-of-life hospice care is also provided. The unit is experiencing growth, having expanded from 30 to 48 beds. The team is seeking experienced registered nurses who can work independently. Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and accountability are essential. Candidates should be team-oriented, adaptable, and willing to support a developing team. Experience in precepting and charge responsibilities is highly preferred. This role is best suited for proactive nurses who excel in a fast-paced environment while contributing to a collaborative culture.
