This is an exciting, high-profile opportunity that needs the right strategic communicator! Under administrative direction of the Supervisor II within the Public Affairs Office (PAO), Communications and Outreach Branch and in coordination with the Deputy Director for State Water Project, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination, development, and implementation of internal and external communication for the State Water Project (SWP) of the Department of Water Resources (DWR). The specific duties include media and public information messaging, communication/outreach planning and implementation, and crisis communications planning and response. The incumbent will serve as the DWR spokesperson to media on program issues as well as any emergency actions related to flooding, and other DWR programs and operations and will lead in the management of assigned projects and ensure that strategic communication planning and outreach remains current and relevant, and that communication plan milestones are completed timely, align with overall department messaging and quality standards, and support DWR's overall mission. Must be capable of communicating about a program whose administration elicits continuous interest and critical review by political bodies or interest groups, as well as frequent questions, misconceptions, and conflicting views. Must have a valid California driver's license as driving and travel are required. Occasional work outside of normal business hours and on weekends required.
