About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac Telemetry or PCU/ICU experience. Ability to read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips. Experience with post-cardiac procedural care (Ablations, cardiac catheterizations, Post Op Day 1 Open Heart, permanent Pacemaker placements). Ability to administer and titrate IV medications such as insulin, Cardizem, Cardene, and Amiodarone. Description: This is a telemetry unit with a total of 29 beds. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4. Unit staffing consists of Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, and Patient Care Technicians. The unit is equipped with Alaris IV Pumps, SCD machines, Hill Rom beds, vital machines in each room, Wound Vacs, Temporary Pacemakers, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, Bladder Scanners, and Dopplers. The documentation system used on the unit is Meditech. Nurses are required to work full-time hours, including three weekend shifts per scheduling period. Contract Nurses will be floated to any area where they have demonstrated competency. Patient experience is a priority, and it is important to treat every patient with courtesy and respect. This includes being responsive to the call light, using the patient's preferred name, making personal connections, involving the patient in bedside shift report, teaching the patient how to contact the nurse directly, and ensuring to ask if there is anything else that can be done before leaving the room. Procedures performed on the unit include IV insertions, NGT placement and maintenance, chest tube maintenance, temporary pacemakers, and Foley insertions. The required dress code consists of navy blue scrubs; black scrub pants may also be worn with a navy blue top. The unit values a tenured and new staff relationship and promotes a family-like atmosphere. Many contract staff members have transitioned into full-time positions due to job satisfaction in this fast-paced environment.
