Assistant Dean III-Nursing Student Success Coach and Retention Specialist

Rutgers University-Camden, School of Nursing seeks an Assistant Dean III - Nursing Student Success Coach & Retention Specialist. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, the Assistant Dean III applies a whole-person, student-centered framework to identify at-risk undergraduate nursing students and implement targeted coaching strategies that promote academic success, progression, and retention within the undergraduate program. Providing individualized and group-based academic coaching, including nursing content support, to strengthen clinical reasoning, clinical judgment, and professional development. The role develops and delivers structured interventions using in-person and technology-enhanced modalities, including synchronous and asynchronous approaches. The Assistant Dean III, Nursing Student Success Coach and Retention Specialist collaborates with administrators, faculty, advisors, data analytics professionals, and student support services to design and implement data-informed retention initiatives that support undergraduate student success and align with established program goals and priorities. The position supports student engagement with learning tools and educational resources to improve academic performance and program outcomes. Using established data sources and student performance indicators, the position monitors student progress, identifies trends, and implements targeted interventions. The role utilizes the Navigate Early Alert System to manage student cases, coordinate outreach, and schedule coaching appointments. The position also facilitates appropriate referrals to campus and community resources to address non-academic factors that influence student success. In addition, the role manages the Nursing Tutoring Center, including tutor recruitment, training, and student scheduling, to ensure high-quality academic support services aligned with program needs. The role initiates and manages academic remediation courses and structured support strategies for students requiring additional academic support, ensuring alignment with established program expectations and student success goals. This position works closely with administration and advisors to identify and address programmatic needs related to student success, contributing data-informed insights to support decision making and continuous improvement efforts. The role serves as an ex officio member of assigned committees, providing expertise and input related to student success, retention, and academic support strategies. The Assistant Dean III -Nursing Student Success Coach and Retention Specialist serves as a resource to faculty and staff by sharing best practices related to academic coaching, student support strategies, and retention efforts. The position participates in student-facing programming, including orientation, recruitment events, and embedded student success courses. This role maintains accurate records, reports, and documentation related to student progression and retention and supports ongoing program assessment and improvement efforts. All initiatives and interventions are developed and implemented in alignment with established undergraduate program goals and in collaboration with academic leadership. The position requires strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across units to achieve defined student success outcomes.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus five years' experience. Current active Registered Nurse license in the State of New Jersey required.

• Master's degree in Nursing or Nursing Education.
• Certified Nurse Educator ( CNE ) credential.
• Experience in undergraduate nursing education, student retention, academic coaching, or nursing student success initiatives.
• Experience supporting NCLEX preparation, clinical reasoning development, and nursing-specific academic success strategies.
• Experience managing tutoring programs, peer academic support services, or academic remediation initiatives.
• Experience utilizing data analytics, dashboards, and student success reporting systems to monitor progression and retention trends.
• Experience participating in nursing program accreditation, assessment, or continuous quality improvement processes.
• Experience facilitating workshops, student success programming, or educational support initiatives in higher education.
• Familiarity with inclusive teaching practices, student engagement strategies, and support services for diverse student populations.

This position requires advanced knowledge of undergraduate nursing education, student success strategies, academic coaching, clinical reasoning development, and retention practices to effectively support undergraduate nursing students and coordinate student success initiatives. Advanced knowledge of nursing education and student support processes is necessary to assess student academic performance, identify barriers to success, develop individualized intervention strategies, support remediation efforts, and collaborate with academic leadership and others regarding student progression and retention initiatives. The position requires the ability to independently manage multiple student success initiatives and utilize data-informed approaches to support academic coaching, remediation, retention, and tutoring operations within the undergraduate nursing program. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Experience utilizing student information systems, learning management systems, early alert systems, and educational technologies.
• Ability to learn and utilize institutional systems including Navigate, Canvas, REGIS, virtual meeting platforms, and related educational software and reporting tools.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment, including printers, scanners, telephones, audiovisual equipment, and classroom technology. Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems, student information systems, and student success technologies including Navigate, Canvas, REGIS, virtual meeting platforms, and related educational software and reporting tools.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office and academic environment. Physical demands include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and working at a computer workstation. Position may require light lifting, filing, transporting materials, and movement between offices, classrooms, tutoring spaces, and meeting locations across campus. The position requires frequent use of computers and virtual communication platforms for meetings, coaching, documentation, reporting, and student support activities. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support student programming, workshops, orientations, recruitment activities, or special events.
