Instructional Designer

ROLE The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning solutions that support employee performance, organizational effectiveness, and exceptional member service. This position collaborates with subject matter experts, project teams, and business leaders to create engaging training programs utilizing adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies. The role supports organizational change initiatives, workforce development, onboarding, compliance training, and continuous learning strategies across the credit union. This position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the position's manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES 45% -Design, develop, maintain, and update engaging learning solutions including eLearning courses, instructor-led training, virtual learning, blended learning programs, assessments, simulations, job aids, videos, and other instructional materials that support employee development, operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance and organizational objectives. 20% - Partner with managers, project teams, and subject matter experts to identify learning needs, conduct training and performance gap analyses, develop learning strategies, and create training solutions aligned with business goals, regulatory requirements, and employee development needs. Review, edit and refine content developed by others to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with adult learning principles and instructional design best practices. 10% - Facilitate virtual and in-person training programs, workshops, onboarding sessions, and other learning events using established curriculum and instructional materials. 10% - Manage instructional design projects from inception to implementation, including project planning, prioritization, stakeholder communication, and timely delivery of learning solutions. Evaluate training effectiveness through learner feedback, assessments, and performance metrics and make recommendations for continuous improvement. 10% - Assist with administering and maintaining learning management systems including course assignments, enrollments, learning paths, reporting, content management, training records, and learner tracking. 5% - Perform other duties as assigned. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS Design and develop comprehensive, engaging, and interactive training programs for employees, including eLearning modules, instructor-led sessions, in-person training and blended learning solutions. Develop content related to key areas including but not limited to compliance, financial products, member service and employee onboarding. Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and create training solutions that address those needs effectively. Collaborate with supervisors, management, project teams and subject matter experts to create and design learning and development programs to address specific training needs for all employee levels aligned with the credit union's goals and objectives. Test, monitor, report and follow up on training process to participants and supervisors. Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through post-training assessments, feedback, and performance metrics. Analyze training data and generate reports to track progress, measure training outcomes, and identify areas for improvement. Continuously update and improve training materials based on learner feedback, organizational needs, process changes, and regulatory requirements. Make recommendations for the best use and application of technology as part of the design and development of training programs as well as the creation and delivery. Ensure that instructional design is rooted in best practices, adult learning principles, and the unique needs of the credit union’s workforce. Maintain and leverage industry knowledge and network(s) to provide "best practice" and benchmarking resources. Keep abreast of training industry trends for evaluation and/or incorporation into training strategies. Secure and maintain appropriate certification for external and/or internal training programs as appropriate. Provide ongoing support and resources to employees post-training to help reinforce learning and ensure continued development. Travel throughout the market area to visit branch locations and meet with employees across various departments to identify training opportunities and acquire knowledge and resources necessary to support effective course development. Support organizational change initiatives, ensuring employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to adapt to evolving processes, technologies, and company goals. Facilitates a culture of continuous learning and growth, empowering employees to navigate change with confidence and contribute to the organization’s success. Effectively facilitate engaging virtual and instructor-led training sessions that achieve established learning objectives, demonstrate strong participant engagement, and receive positive learner feedback. Serve as a back up to the Training Specialist. Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to perform Training Specialist responsibilities when needed, ensuring minimal disruption to training schedules, onboarding activities, and learner support during absences or periods of increased workload. Develop and maintain standardized learning paths for branch and departmental positions, while supporting career and skill development. Serve as an administrator of the LMS managing administration tasks, reporting, enrollments, course assignments, and content management. Provides ongoing support to the VP Training & Development by assisting with strategic initiatives, learning programs, departmental projects, reporting, and training operations. Serves as a backup for critical training and development activities to ensure uninterrupted support for employees and business needs. Participate in training and professional development activities to acquire and maintain standards established by the credit union. This could include attending conferences, seminars, and workshops as directed by management. Is accountable for full compliance with the credit union’s policies and procedures, internal controls, confidentiality standards, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, and all applicable regulatory and audit obligations. Also maintains a working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and operational requirements to support the development and delivery of effective training programs across the credit union. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in instructional design, learning and development, training program development, or a related field required. Experience designing eLearning content using adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies preferred. Education (1) A bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Training & Development, Education or related field, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. CPTD (Certified Professional in Talent Development), ATD Instructional Design Certificate, Articulate Training Certification, Change Management Certification, etc.). Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Other Skills Extensive knowledge of instructional design software (e.g. Canva, Articulate, Yvond, Scribe) is required. Advanced experience developing presentations including the use of animations is required. Advanced experience with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat is required. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal & written) with employees at all levels is required. Excellent formatting and proofreading skills. Extensive knowledge of English grammar and spelling and the ability to communicate content using clear and concise language is required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, maintain constant attention to detail, and be skilled in working both collaboratively and independently to perform effectively under tight deadlines is required. Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills are required. Experience managing projects of moderate scope is preferred. Experience with audio and video editing software is preferred. Physical Requirements Involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required occasionally. Repetitive finger movements to perform typing or otherwise working with paper files and documents. Require close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; view a computer terminal; read; and assess work quality. Work Environment Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. State of Pennsylvania residency required. Position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the position's manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy. In order to be approved to work from home, a cable modem or fiber internet connection is required which must have minimum service speed of 10M download / 2M upload, with less than 1% packet loss. Internet service and modem are the employee's expense.
