Business Intelligence (BI) DeveloperCanal Insurance Company is seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to design, develop, and deliver enterprise-grade reporting, dashboards, and analytical solutions. This role leverages Power BI to provide actionable insights across Claims, Underwriting, Agency, Finance, and Operations.The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Power BI, SQL development, and Azure-based analytics platforms, along with the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable, governed data and visualization solutions. Insurance industry experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong technical BI capabilities. This position follows an onsite work model and requires regular in-office collaboration with business and technology teams.Key Responsibilities:Design and develop reporting solutions leveraging data from Policy, Claims, Billing, Agency Management systems, and third-party data sourcesBuild reusable semantic and data models to support enterprise analyticsCollaborate closely with business stakeholders and Data Engineering teams on ETL/ELT processes and curated data layer integrationDevelop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BIBuild executive level dashboards (Senior Leadership Team ready views, SLT-ready views)Develop operational dashboards across the enterpriseImplement row-level security (RLS) and role-based access controls.Translate business KPIs into structured, reusable data modelsPartner with Claims, Underwriting, and Finance stakeholders to refine and standardize metricsDesign and deliver cloud-based BI solutions on Azure, leveraging Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and Power BI to enable scalable, secure analytics.Build and optimize semantic models and dashboards using Power BI, integrating data from Azure platforms with strong performance, governance, and cost efficiency.Develop complex Power BI dashboards and reports leveraging advanced DAX, Power Query, and enterprise data modeling techniques.Design and implement star schemas for reporting and analyticsDevelop advanced DAX calculations and measures in Power BIOptimize report performance through query tuning and aggregation strategiesEnsure data lineage, governance, and metric consistencySupport Medallion architecture (Raw ? Silver ? Gold)Leverage Copilot and other LLM tools to enable self-service analytics and reportingDevelop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and datasets to support reporting and analytics.Perform query tuning and optimization to improve reporting performance and scalability.Perform data validation and reconciliation against source systemsImplement and support data quality checksSupport audit and regulatory reporting requirementsDocument data definitions, transformations, and business logicRequired Qualifications:5+ years of experience in BI / Data Analytics developmentStrong hands-on Power BI Experience, including dashboard development, data modeling, DAX, and Power QueryStrong SQL skills (complex joins, window functions, performance tuning)Experience with Azure data and analytics platforms, including Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Guidewire DataHub / InfoCenterExperience within the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.Experience working with large insurance datasetsExperience with ETL tools such as ADF, SSIS, Informatica, or similarExperience supporting AMS or modernization programsFamiliarity with Data Governance and MDM conceptsExperience supporting Digital / Transformation initiativesSoft Skills:Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skillsAbility to work effectively with both business and technical teamsExecutive-ready storytelling through dashboards and insightsDetail-oriented with a strong analytical mindsetDemonstrated ownership of outcomes, not just report developmentEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
