About Monumental Labs Monumental Labs, a venture-backed company in New York, is building robot stone carving factories to unleash an art and architecture renaissance. We’re using robotics and AI to drive down the cost of stone fabrication, unleashing creative possibilities for artists and architects. Our end goal: to build cities with the splendor of Florence, Paris, or pre-war New York, at a fraction of the cost. In 2+ years, we’ve worked on the restoration of The Frick, Carnegie Hall, and The Villard Houses. We’re working on new buildings for major universities and with firms like Robert A.M. Stern Architects. We’ve completed fine-art commissions for major artists, for ultra-high net worth individuals, and for companies, churches and other institutions. We’re currently at an inflection point as we move into a new HQ in Greenpoint where we will have 10x the production capacity. We can now take on massive projects, from monumental public monuments to structural stone buildings. And we intend to expand our presence across the country to meet demand in various geographies. About the Role We're adding a VP, Business Development to our team to help drive growth across the markets we serve, from sculpture and design to architecture and construction. We're looking for a relentless operator and relationship builder who can succeed in complex sales environments, working directly with leadership to build a multi-million dollar backlog of stone projects. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on selling.You'll identify the buyers and opportunities with the greatest potential for Monumental and lead the effort to pursue them, from outreach and first meetings with artists, designers, architects, developers, and institutions through to installation. Success depends on the curiosity and aptitude to master our process quickly: what our robotic systems do well, where hand carving remains essential, and what shapes cost and schedule. Roughly a fifth of your time will go toward shaping how Monumental is seen, guiding our digital presence, hosting events and shop visits, and building relationships with the press and the publications our clients read. What you’ll do Define the strategy for your market, not just execute one. Decide which buyers, projects, and channels are worth pursuing; test new ones quickly. Build a multi-million-dollar backlog of stone projects. Work directly with company leadership to identify, develop, and close significant opportunities. Own the commercial process end to end. Build the target list, run the outreach, take the meetings, scope and price the work, and close it. There is no SDR handing you leads. Own the client relationship through delivery. Stay involved from the first conversation through stone selection, approvals, production, delivery, and installation. Become technically fluent in what we do. Learn our fabrication methods well enough to understand what the robots do well, what still requires a hand, what changes cost, and what's genuinely possible — and to give clients answers they can rely on. Be our voice in the market, roughly a fifth of the job. You'd lead our efforts to expand our presence, both digital and physical: through our website, social media, and email; through events, lunch-and-learns, and shop visits; and through relationships with press and the publications our buyers read. What you build here is yours to define. Who you are You've built relationships from scratch, moved complicated opportunities forward, and turned first projects into second and third ones. You're genuinely scrappy and highly self-directed. You'll build the list, write the emails, take the meeting, visit the site, and do it again the following week without waiting for someone to tell you what comes next. You're a fast and serious learner. You can get deep into an unfamiliar subject quickly and become credible with people who have spent their careers in it. Within a few months, you should be able to hold your own with a fabricator, an architect, and a sculptor in the same conversation. You have real taste and judgment. You can tell the difference between good work and merely expensive work, you understand what makes a project succeed, and you can hold your own with people who have spent their careers around design without pretending to be one of them. You're comfortable selling something people don't yet know they can buy. Much of this job involves changing someone's assumptions about what's possible and affordable before a commercial conversation can even begin. You write well and you're comfortable being visible. A meaningful part of this role is public — publishing work, speaking to rooms, building an audience for what we do. A background in art, design, architecture, or the trades around them is preferred. Qualifications Candidates should demonstrate a history of successfully driving sales and partnerships in complex markets. Location We’re currently located in Mt. Vernon, NY but moving to a new 40k sq ft HQ in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in a few months. In-person preferred but open to remote for the right candidate.
