Nurse Manager – Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg)

Salary : $120,000.00 to $150,000 annually

Location: Queens, NY

Job Type: Long-Term Contract (13-Week Assignment)

Shift: Mon–Fri | Starts at 6:30 AM / 7:00 AM – Ends at 5:00 PM / 7:00 PM

(24/7 operational accountability for unit)

Compensation: Competitive Hourly Rate + Straight Time Pay for Extra Hours

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Manager for a 13-week contract assignment overseeing our Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) unit in Queens, NY.

The Nurse Manager provides administrative, clinical, and operational leadership for the Med-Surg inpatient unit. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, maintaining optimal staffing based on acuity, and fostering a supportive, professional environment for the nursing team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Operational Leadership

• Direct day-to-day unit operations with 24/7 operational accountability .
• Maintain strict compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards ( TJC, CMS, OSHA ).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, case managers, therapy services) to implement care plans and streamline patient flow.
• Dynamically adjust staffing and scheduling based on daily census and patient acuity metrics.

2. Personnel Management & Mentorship

• Interview, select, and oversee onboarding for new nursing staff.
• Mentor and coach Registered Nurses (RNs) and support staff to drive clinical excellence.
• Conduct performance evaluations and address clinical or operational issues promptly.

3. Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Lead unit-level quality improvement initiatives to minimize hospital-acquired conditions (falls, HAPI, CLABSI/CAUTI, medication errors).
• Monitor HCAHPS scores , address patient/family concerns, and elevate the care experience.
• Maintain continuous audit readiness for state and Joint Commission surveys.

4. Fiscal Stewardship

• Assist executive nursing leadership with operational budget monitoring.
• Manage labor costs, overtime, and supply inventory efficiently while prioritizing high-quality patient care.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required; BSN or MSN highly preferred .
• Licensure: Active, unrestricted New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License .
• Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS required.
• Clinical Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of acute care Med-Surg nursing experience.
• Leadership Experience: Minimum 1–2 years as a Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Assistant Nurse Manager on an inpatient unit.
• Skills: Strong proficiency with EMR systems, staff scheduling tools, conflict resolution, and clinical resource management.
