Senior Database Administrator

Salary: $98,000 - 138,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• We need 5–7 years of DBA experience, with a strong emphasis on SQL Server performance tuning and optimization.
• We expect deep expertise in query tuning, indexing strategies, Query Store analysis, execution plan interpretation, and hardware resource analysis.
• We look for familiarity with DMVs, SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Query Store.
• We require at least 2 years of experience with Snowflake and dbt for data warehousing.
• We require 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, DMS, Lambda, and Redshift.
• We need solid knowledge of ETL/ELT pipelines and data orchestration, with a strong focus on Airflow.
• We expect strong T-SQL skills and scripting ability for automation, such as PowerShell or Python.
• We require experience with high availability and disaster recovery design, including Always On, log shipping, and clustering, along with an understanding of performance impact.
• We want candidates who can translate performance findings into practical recommendations for developers and infrastructure teams.
• We value the ability to use AI for DBA tasks and to introduce AI-driven improvements to existing processes.
• Preferred: experience with CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows.
• Preferred: experience with cloud databases such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL.
• Preferred: working knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL administration and performance troubleshooting.
• Preferred: familiarity with database monitoring and analytics tools such as SolarWinds DPA, Redgate SQL Monitor, or SentryOne.
• Preferred: certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server Performance Tuning Specialist.

• We analyze, tune, and optimize database performance for mission-critical SQL Server environments.
• We perform in-depth reviews of slow queries, indexes, and workloads using advanced performance monitoring tools.
• We partner with developers to improve SQL efficiency, refine schema design, and support scalable architecture.
• We implement, maintain, and support database monitoring tools to detect and resolve performance issues proactively.
• We administer SQL Server databases, including user access, backups, patching, and replication.
• We provide performance reviews and configuration support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL systems when needed.
• We document performance standards, baselines, and tuning approaches.
• We take part in capacity planning, workload forecasting, and resource utilization assessments.
• We ensure high availability and disaster recovery strategies are optimized for both performance and cost.
• We manage multiple concurrent initiatives and tune databases that support several enterprise products.
• We monitor and support data pipelines built with Airflow and dbt.
• We work in AWS to implement monitoring and error handling for ETL/ELT tools such as Glue and DMS.
• We communicate clearly, pay close attention to detail, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, multi-database setting.

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic and collaborative IT organization, where we support a wide range of business applications. This role is centered on performance optimization and database tuning across multiple platforms, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server. It is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting inefficiencies, improving application performance, and partnering with development teams to build high-performing database solutions. Alongside core DBA responsibilities such as maintenance, monitoring, backup, recovery, and security, we also rely on strong ETL and data warehousing knowledge, including production pipeline monitoring and debugging. The role may require periodic after-hours or weekend support during performance testing or maintenance windows.
