Car Audio Product Test Technician

Location: Louisville, Kentucky

Salary: $55,000–$65,000 per year, depending on experience

Schedule: Full-time, on-site

Sonic Electronix is looking for an experienced car audio installer who wants to use their hands-on knowledge in a new way.

This position is an opportunity to move from daily customer installations into the product development side of the car-audio industry. You will help test and improve products from brands such as NVX, including amplifiers, subwoofers, speakers, enclosures, DSP products, wiring accessories, and vehicle-specific audio solutions.

You do not need an engineering degree or previous product-development experience. We are looking for someone who understands how car-audio products are installed, knows how to troubleshoot problems, and is interested in learning how products are developed and tested.

This is primarily a product testing and development position. Occasional vehicle installations will be required, but you will not spend every day working in an installation bay.

What You’ll Do

• Test car-audio products on a workbench and in vehicles.
  
• Install amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers, DSPs, radios, cameras, and related accessories.
  
• Identify product problems and recommend practical improvements.
  
• Evaluate sound quality, performance, fitment, installation difficulty, and included accessories.
  
• Build and test prototype audio systems.
  
• Troubleshoot wiring, noise, compatibility, and performance problems.
  
• Provide feedback based on real-world installation experience.
  
• Help create installation instructions, troubleshooting guides, and product information.
  
• Answer occasional technical questions from customer-service and product teams.
  
• Verify vehicle fitment and product compatibility information.
  
• Work with the product-development, engineering, customer-service, and marketing teams.
  
• Learn additional product-testing and development procedures on the job.
  

What We’re Looking For

• At least two years of hands-on car-audio or automotive electronics installation experience preferred.
  
• Experience installing amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers, radios, or similar 12-volt products.
  
• Basic understanding of vehicle wiring and electrical troubleshooting.
  
• Ability to use common installation tools and a digital multimeter.
  
• Interest in car audio, fabrication, vehicle electronics, and new-product development.
  
• Ability to clearly explain installation or product problems.
  
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new programs.
  
• Dependable, organized, and able to work with a team.
  
• High school diploma or equivalent.
  

Experience with DSP tuning, custom fabrication, oscilloscopes, RTA equipment, Audio Precision testing, vehicle integration, or MECP certification is helpful but not required.
