Propulsion Engineer Intern - Fall 2026

Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. As a Propulsion Engineering Intern, you will support the design, development, and testing of propulsion components and systems. You will work closely with engineers, manufacturing teams, and vendors to help bring propulsion hardware from concept through testing. Summer: around 10 weeks (May - August) Fall: around 16 weeks (September - December) Responsibilities Support the design and development of propulsion components and systems from conceptual design through detailed mechanical design Create and release engineering drawings and collaborate with manufacturing teams and external vendors to produce hardware Assist in defining, configuring, and setting up propulsion test rigs Support the execution and documentation of propulsion hardware testing and development activities Minimum Requirements Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies or projects. Must be currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program) Strong interest in propulsion systems, design, and testing. Strong understanding of engineering first principles Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission Excellent written and verbal communication skills GPA of 3.0 or above U.S. EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE STATUS The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
