Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws using straight needles or butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and sample integrity
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to established procedures
• Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples, following specific protocols
• Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation
• Package specimens properly for transport, maintaining sample integrity during handling
• Store samples at appropriate temperatures and follow protocols to preserve specimen quality
• Record maintenance data, update patient information, and ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Wear appropriate PPE and attend annual department training sessions
• Answer calls and provide laboratory result information as needed

Required Skills

• Experience in venipuncture and specimen collection processes
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, centrifuging, and sample handling protocols
• Ability to explain collection procedures clearly and professionally
• Understanding of laboratory requisition forms and matching them to specimens
• Familiarity with OSHA and DEP safety and compliance regulations
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Additional Skills & Requirements

• Previous phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting preferred
• Certification as a phlebotomist is a plus but not always required
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• This role typically follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 9 am to 6 pm, with every other Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm
• Physical ability to perform blood draws and specimen handling as required
