Philanthropic Advisor Job Description United States of America | Remote About Simple Charity Simple Charity is a Christian research and advising nonprofit that inspires generous love. We believe that giving is the good life and that giving wisely is hard work. Our research and advice are shaped first and foremost by a biblical worldview. We are also informed by data, social science, and systems thinking principles. We maintain a database of nonprofit analytics that we leverage to support the philanthropy of individuals, families, or institutions giving $10k - $10M+ annually. Our clients include foundations, family offices, giving collaborations, donor-advised funds, and pooled giving funds. We love helping clients give locally or globally to the causes that they are passionate about. We also enjoy helping clients discover what those causes might be. As a nonprofit advising firm, our bottom line is always the life stories of the people who are transformed by generosity. Our vision is that all Christians would love the poor with actions and in truth. General Description Simple Charity Advisors acquire and serve clients, ministering to them as they grow in their generosity journeys. Advisors are locally embedded leaders who leverage and build their networks and share openly about Simple Charity’s services. They build relationships directly with potential clients including individuals, families, corporations, foundations, family offices, and giving collaborations. They also develop working relationships with local financial advisors, DAF sponsors, estate planning attorneys, development professionals, and CPAs. During meetings with new clients, Advisors determine which service offerings are most appropriate and clearly communicate the fees for each service. Then, the Advisor documents the client’s information for the Research Team to produce relevant deliverables. Advisors meet with clients to help them develop a Philanthropic Strategy, review an Outcomes Report or Giving Guide, or dive deep into Cause Research. Advisors are paid a commission based on the services that they provide according to the Philanthropic Advisor Commission Schedule. Throughout this process, the Advisor ministers the gospel to clients with love, grace, and a spirit of abundance. Success is an increase of joyful generosity, solidarity with neighbors, and love in action. This is all rooted in the love of God for clients. Responsibilities Acquire new clients, which may be individuals, families, corporations, foundations, family offices, community foundations, giving collaborations, pooled giving funds, or other philanthropic actors. Onboard new clients with free discovery meetings. Clearly explain Simple Charity’s service offerings and fees for each service. For clients that require custom projects, contact the Executive Team to obtain an appropriate fee. Pursue an active presence in the local community through nonprofit events. Intentionally build relationships with local business leaders, business ministries, financial advisors, DAF sponsors, estate planning attorneys, development professionals, and CPAs. Manage relationships with new and current clients. Document all relevant client interactions and information in a CRM so that the Research Team can fulfill its role to produce deliverables for the client. Walk clients through a Philanthropic Strategy process that helps them create a plan of action to love generously. Review Outcome Reports and Giving Guides in person with clients whenever possible. Communicate with the Research Team whenever a client has a question about a grant, cause, or charity that you do not know the answer to, and then promptly follow up with the client. Maintain ongoing prompt communication with new and established clients. Meet regularly with Giving Advisement clients to report on their impact and discuss their philanthropy. Qualifications A passion for service and Kingdom impact. Emotional intelligence and empathic listening skills. High level of professionalism in written and verbal communication. Organized and motivated to document client interactions in a project management system. Ability to take initiative and build new relationships in the local community, self-motivated. Curiosity and openness to continuous learning. Preferred Trained facilitator of Journey of Generosity (JOG) retreats. Deep understanding of the philanthropic ecosystem including donor-advised funds (DAFs), family foundations, family offices, community foundations, development professionals, and financial advisors. Knowledge of philanthropic causes such as child welfare, education, public health, human trafficking, safe water, homelessness, refugee resettlement, etc. (do not have to be an expert) An existing social network of potential clients.
