Structural Technician

The Structural Technician performs complex structural work on aircraft, including fabrication, installation, and repair of sheet metal and structural components, while strictly following safety regulations, engineering specifications, and aviation maintenance standards.

• Comply with all safety regulations, procedures, and company policies while performing all work.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, manuals, and specifications to determine layouts, outlines, and patterns on materials using measuring instruments and scribes.
• Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, form, punch, drill, and shape parts to precise specifications.
• Operate soldering equipment to join sheet metal parts and structural components.
• Smooth edges and surfaces of grooves or joints using hand tools, power tools, files, or chemicals to ensure proper fit and finish.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
• Provide accurate diagnosis and repair of structural discrepancies identified on aircraft.
• Install structural fittings such as bulkheads, formers, stringers, ribs, frames, and other structural components.
• Install insulation materials such as fiberglass or polyurethane using appropriate hand or power tools.
• Repair dents, cracks, and other damage to aircraft skins using suitable hand tools and approved methods.
• Repair holes in aircraft skins using patch materials such as aluminum, composite materials, or plastic materials including fiberglass cloth and synthetic resin materials.
• Install, repair, and replace aircraft skins, structural components, and interior furnishings such as insulation, carpeting, vinyl flooring, soundproofing materials, seats, paneling, and paint.
• Install interior and exterior trim such as windows, doors, bulkheads, wall panels, ceilings, flooring, and staircases in accordance with specifications.
• Repair or replace damaged control surfaces such as flaps, ailerons, rudders, elevators, or stabilizers using hand tools such as files, grinders, or sanders.
• Use machining skills to operate and maintain metalworking machines, including lathes, milling machines, and drill presses, to cut, shape, and form metal parts.
• Apply welding techniques to repair, modify, and fabricate aircraft parts as required.
• Use fabrication skills to create tools and parts for aircraft, and to repair or modify existing components.
• Perform detailed inspections of aircraft parts and structures to assess condition, determine repair needs, and verify that installed parts operate correctly.
• Follow aviation maintenance manuals and MRO procedures to ensure all work meets regulatory and quality standards.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an FAA-approved sheet metal mechanic program.
• At least 3 years of experience as a sheet metal mechanic, including a minimum of 2 years working on aircraft.
• Strong background in aviation structural work, including aircraft sheet metal, structural repair, and heavy structures.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and aviation maintenance manuals.
• Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry as applied to layout and fabrication tasks.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment safely and effectively.
• Demonstrated experience with aircraft structural sheet metal, fabrication, and repair, including aircraft assembly and structural repair on airframes and aircraft parts.
• Machining skills for operating and maintaining metalworking machines such as lathes, milling machines, and drill presses for aircraft sheet metal work.
• Welding skills for joining, repairing, and modifying aircraft metal components.
• Fabrication skills to create and modify aircraft tools and parts from raw materials.
• Inspection skills to assess the condition of aircraft parts, perform precise measurements, and ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
• Familiarity with heavy maintenance environments and MRO practices.
• Ability to work with aircraft structures including skins, ribs, frames, bulkheads, and control surfaces on fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

• Experience with aviation structures on helicopters, including models such as Bell helicopters.
• background in structural sheet metal work for both aircraft and heavy structures.
• Experience fabricating sheet metal components for aircraft assembly and structural repair.
• Comfort working with composite and plastic materials such as fiberglass cloth and synthetic resin materials.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing work that meets strict aviation quality and safety standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented hangar environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
• Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing structural discrepancies and determining appropriate repair methods.

This role is based in a hangar environment at an airport facility in Fort Worth. The workspace is climate controlled and supports a team-based, collaborative atmosphere. You will work primarily on aircraft in a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) setting, using a wide range of tools and equipment including hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering tools, fabricating machines (shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, punch and drill presses), and metalworking machinery such as lathes and milling machines. The schedule follows a first-shift, 8-hour day, Monday through Friday, providing predictable hours in a professional aviation maintenance environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $46.00/hr.
