At Joseph’s Classic Market, our Grocery Manager plays a key role in ensuring shelves are full, promotions are executed flawlessly, and guests can always find what they need. Leading one of the largest and most dynamic areas of the store, this role balances merchandising execution, inventory control, and team leadership to keep the department running efficiently while delivering a seamless shopping experience. You’ll gain valuable experience analyzing sales trends, managing shrink, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced retail environment. We support managers who take ownership, mentor their teams, and grow alongside the business. Responsibilities Department Operations Oversee all grocery floor operations including dry goods, canned goods, beverages, dairy, frozen, and non-food items Maintain full, clean, and well-organized shelves and backroom storage areas Ensure all shelves, endcaps, and displays are stocked and rotated using FIFO Supervise opening and closing duties for the grocery department Coordinate product movement between storage, backstock, and sales floor Merchandising & Promotions Execute company merchandising plans and planograms Set and maintain attractive promotional displays Coordinate weekly ad sets, special promotions, and seasonal resets Ensure accurate signage, shelf tags, and pricing Keep high-traffic displays full, clean, and shoppable throughout the day Inventory & Ordering Order products from approved vendors based on par levels and sales trends Monitor and manage inventory to reduce shrink and overstocks Conduct inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies Maintain organized backstock systems Track waste and damaged goods Customer Service Ensure team members provide knowledgeable, responsive guest service Handle customer concerns and product inquiries professionally Train staff to assist with product location, substitutions, and special orders Maintain a welcoming and service-focused environment Hire, train, schedule, and supervise grocery associates and stockers Provide coaching, support, and performance evaluations Lead daily huddles to review goals, priorities, and promotions Monitor department attendance and ensure associates adhere to scheduled shifts and company timekeeping policies, addressing any attendance or punctuality concerns promptly and consistently Follow up on performance or attendance issues with proper documentation and corrective action when necessary, including disciplinary action forms, notes to file, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) to support accountability and improvement within the department Enforce safety standards (ladder use, heavy lifting procedures, spill response) Reporting & Communication Submit weekly sales, labor, and shrink reports to Store Manager Communicate vendor or delivery issues to buyers and leadership Coordinate with other department managers on store-wide initiatives Maintain accurate stocking, rotation, and ordering logs Qualifications Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in grocery retail Strong knowledge of grocery categories, merchandising, and inventory control Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills Proficiency in ordering systems and inventory tools Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods Flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays Physical & Work Environment This role is performed in a fast-paced retail grocery environment and requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The Grocery Manager must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work across multiple temperature zones, including dry storage, refrigerated, and frozen areas. The environment may involve repetitive movements, exposure to dust and cleaning agents, and frequent coordination between sales floor and backroom areas.
