Experienced Immigration Attorney Needed for Asylum, Removal Defense & Family-Based Practice

ZMK Law, PLLC is a growing boutique immigration law firm based in New York, representing clients across the United States.

\n

\n

This is a full-time, fully remote position. That said, the role involves in-person appearances at Immigration Court and USCIS interviews as assigned, primarily throughout the New York City Metropolitan Area and Long Island (New York). Candidates must therefore be able and willing to travel for appearances when needed.

\n

\n

Areas of practice include:

\n

\n

\n
• Defensive asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention Against Torture;
\n
• VAWA-based filings;
\n
• Cancellation of removal;
\n
• Motions to reopen, reconsider, terminate, sever, suppress, remand, and continue;
\n
• BIA appeals and related motion practice;
\n
• Adjustment of Status before Immigration Courts;
\n
• Special Immigrant Juvenile Status matters involving removal proceedings; and
\n
• Family-based affirmative filings.
\n

\n

Responsibilities will include:

\n

\n

\n
• Manage removal-defense matters from initial assessment through final resolution;
\n
• Review complex immigration histories and develop viable legal strategies and alternative pathways;
\n
• Develop declarations and factual records; and prepare Forms I-589 and other applications before EOIR;
\n
• Draft legal briefs, motions, and hearing submissions;
\n
• Prepare complete call-up packages;
\n
• Represent clients at master and individual calendar hearings;
\n
• Conduct statutory, regulatory, administrative, and federal-court research;
\n
• Coordinate effectively with paralegals, interpreters, experts, and outside counsel;
\n
• Review assigned matters daily and maintain accurate case notes, deadlines, next steps, and task ownership; and
\n
• Communicate legal risks, case developments, and potential delays promptly.

Required qualifications:

\n

\n

\n
• Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar;
\n
• At least 3 years of substantial immigration-law experience performing the core responsibilities outlined above, including removal defense, legal strategy development, EOIR filings, and representation at master and individual calendar hearings.
\n
• Strong legal research, analysis, writing, factual-development, and oral-advocacy skills;
\n
• Ability to manage multiple hearings and filing deadlines; and
\n
• Sound professional judgment and close attention to detail.
