Legal Assistant -Social Security Disability

Ultimate Staffing is actively seeking a dependable and professional Legal Assistant with Social Security Disability experience to join their client's legal office in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. This long-term, temp-to-hire opportunity offers a consistent schedule from Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Position Summary

The client is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Legal Assistant with Social Security Disability (SSD) experience to support attorneys and clients throughout the disability claims process. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and knowledge of Social Security Administration procedures and documentation requirements.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

Salary Range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with Social Security Disability and SSI case management from intake through resolution.
• Communicate with clients regarding case status, required documentation, appointments, and deadlines.
• Gather, organize, and review medical records, employment records, and supporting evidence.
• Prepare and submit forms, applications, appeals, and other legal documents to the Social Security Administration.
• Monitor case deadlines and maintain accurate case files and databases.
• Request and track records and other supporting documentation.
• Schedule client appointments, hearings, and meetings.
• Draft correspondence and communicate professionally with clients, medical providers, government agencies, and opposing parties.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Legal Assistant, Legal Secretary, or Case Manager in a Social Security Disability practice.
• Knowledge of Social Security Disability (SSD/SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) processes preferred.
• Experience obtaining and reviewing medical records.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software (Caret legal software use but experience not required, will be trained).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting attorneys in disability hearings and appeals.
• Familiarity with SSA forms, procedures, and electronic filing systems.
• Prior experience in a law firm or legal environment focused on SS disability law.
