Requirements: 10+ years of Construction Industry Experience, Experience working closely with a GC, Experience as a Project Executive, Senior Project Manager, or Preconstruction Leader, Commercial Bidding, Business Developemnt
Position OverviewA well established electrical contractor is seeking a senior level Director of Preconstruction and Business Development to lead early project pursuits, strengthen General Contractor relationships, and drive revenue growth.
This is a leadership role focused on winning negotiated and design assist work, positioning projects early, and aligning preconstruction strategy with profitable execution. This is not a pure estimating position.
The ideal candidate comes from a General Contractor or GC facing background and is comfortable owning client relationships, supporting pursuits, and influencing project awards. Key Responsibilities:
Business Development and Client Leadership
- Build and maintain senior level relationships with General Contractors, Developers, and Owners
- Pursue and secure negotiated, design assist, and repeat work
- Position the company early during conceptual and schematic phases
- Lead pursuits, interviews, and client presentations
- Sell work through relationships and technical credibility
- Maintain and grow a strong project pipeline
- Support revenue growth and long term client strategy
Preconstruction Leadership
- Lead preconstruction from concept through GMP and contract execution
- Guide estimators on pricing strategy, scope review, and risk management
- Develop conceptual budgets and design development estimates
- Identify value engineering ideas and cost saving alternatives
- Ensure pricing is competitive, complete, and margin focused
Project Executive Involvement
- Maintain project ownership from award through turnover to operations
- Support contract negotiations and risk review
- Remain involved during construction at a leadership level to protect margin and relationships
Internal Leadership
- Partner with ownership and executive leadership on growth strategy
- Improve preconstruction processes and consistency
- Mentor and support preconstruction and estimating staff
- Improve win rate, project selection, and profitability
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in preconstruction, estimating, and business development within a general contracting environment;
- Demonstrated experience as a project executive or equivalent senior project leadership role.
- Experience working for or closely with a General Contractor is critical (electrical background is a huge plus)
- Strong technical skills in cost estimating, quantity takeoff, budgeting, cost modeling, value engineering, and constructability review.
- Demonstrated business development capabilities: client relationship management, strategic pursuits, proposal development, and contract negotiation.
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms and CRM systems.
- Understanding of Owner and GC requirements, Electrical Systems and Costs, Commercial/Multifamily construction, Design-Assist
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and clientfacing skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to client sites, design meetings, and industry events as required.
