Staff Engineer

The Nevada City and Chico office of NV5 is seeking a staff engineer for geotechnical and civil-related engineering to join our dynamic team, supporting a variety of infrastructure projects. In this role, you will work under the direction of a Senior Engineer, contributing to the design, analysis, and implementation of multi‑disciplinary engineering solutions in drafting. Responsibilities Prepares, checks, and reviews working plans, detail drawings, and specifications for layout and construction of site layout, foundations, structural steel, and underground utilities under the direct supervision of Senior Engineering staff. Develops 2D and 3D construction/layout drawings for site grading/drainage/permit drawings and coordinates Civil and Structural designs with Mechanical and Electrical / I&C disciplines. Reviews and compares Civil / Structural subcontractor drawings against base models for accuracy and completeness, making any necessary adjustments. Maintains or develops new project drawing files for all related drawings in accordance with company standards and procedures. Understands and follows standard CAD practices and procedures. Uses CAD equipment and software; Proficient in both 2D & 3D CAD drafting as well as AutoCAD Civil3D. While primarily a CAD position, exposure to Field survey, Site Plan Development, Construction Layout, Geological Map Interpretation, and Presentation is beneficial. Works in a collaborative environment made up of Geotechnical, Civil, and Geologic engineers and designers. Qualifications Specific Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D Design software. MS Excel Spreadsheet software. MS Word Processing software. GIS software is a plus. Education and/or Experience 1–4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Civil Engineering, or a master’s or focus in geotechnical engineering. EIT or working towards PE license. The pay range for this California position is $35.00 – $45.00 per hour. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
