Description: This position involves working on a stepdown unit that specializes in medical, surgical, and trauma patients. The unit consists of private rooms equipped with advanced monitoring capabilities. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 with assistance from clinical associates. The unit serves an important role in treating various complex conditions, including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, and patients requiring respiratory support. Nurses will care for patients with conditions such as diabetes and those post-general surgical interventions. The unit requires nursing staff to perform 24-hour hemodynamic monitoring. Early patient mobilization is promoted, with facilities available for support. Exceptional learning opportunities are available for both seasoned and new graduate nurses to enhance their skill set. Common diagnoses include trauma and general medical/surgical cases. Nurses are expected to titrate drips such as cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone. Basic EKG interpretation is required, but techs will assist with reading strips. The unit completes scheduling for shifts, including weekends and holidays on a rotational basis. There is no requirement for call or standby. Floating may occur on a rotational basis with other staff members. Scrub color is royal blue. The documentation system used is EPIC.
